GOP opposition to Violence Against Women Act has nothing to do with LGBT/ Immigrant protection

I do not believe that the GOP opposition to the reauthorization of VAWA is related to the dog whistle social issues of protections for the gay and immigrant communities. What has been a real problem for many conservative constituencies is this the gun control provisions in the law. It is convenient for the GOP to cite their objections to VAWA on their "moral" social principles. The Native American issues make no sense to me, but I think the GOP just wants to pretend there should be no additional protections that would, in their home district's opinions, validate "those" people's rights. Nice try guys.
