Abortion pills are safe, effective, and have been used by millions of people.
No court or politician can change either of those realities.

ETA: also, "Only Women Bleed" was an Alice Cooper song about intimate partner violence

(5,580 posts)Trans men and nonbinary people also get abortions. Youre close to violating DUs anti-bigotry rules here.

(17,737 posts)Because there's always someone who has to fight over the miniscule details. Pick apart every letter and syllable. We can't ever just unite behind a sentiment.
Did you not KNOW what she meant? The English language is not always perfect.
I apologize, but I am very protective of Hillary. I truly believe she is the smartest person on the planet.

(2,998 posts)When you see Rep. Gills shit-eating grin, youll know exactly who he is.
Since Rep. Gill is so interested in our favorite types of abortions, I thought Id share a few of mine.
My favorite type of abortion is the one that prevents a raped ten-year-old from breaking her pelvis in childbirth.
I also like abortions that keep women from carrying dead fetuses for weeks on end, which is what happened to Marlena Stell in Rep. Gills home state of Texas.
My favorite abortions are the kind that stop women from going septic, or prevent 28-year-olds from losing both of their fallopian tubes.
Another favorite? The abortion that means a Texas 21-year-old wont be forced to carry a fetus developing without a head.
I like the abortion that means a pregnant mother of five with cervical cancer doesnt have to beg a hospital panel for chemotherapy.
I like the abortion that doesnt force a woman to travel far from home when faced with a fatal fetal abnormality.
I really like the abortion that stops patients from having to plead for help in videos made in hospital parking lots.

(6,436 posts)No one likes abortion. It means something went wrong. Regardless of the reason, many people need to have an abortion, which is why it needs to be legal and accessible.

(5,477 posts)I honestly believe there were a lot more abortions back then than there have been since abortion was made legal. The main problem besides not being safe is illegal abortions cost cash, a commodity poorer people don't have. That forces women without money to use self-inflicted methods. The jackasses in the GOP are too dumb to realize what a can of worms they just opened but they don't give a crap. Lording over women makes them feel manly.

(42,359 posts)There were no pills then, they had to undergo surgery with unsafe conditions. It was a terrible time before the Roe v. Wade ruling, and many girls/women died as a result.

(73,903 posts)filled w women who developed sepsis, or whos abortion was incomplete, and needed a d&c.
didnt have them in private hospitals, esp catholic 1s.

(22,859 posts)The title is The Worst of Times, and the author is Patricia G. Miller. It was published in 1993 and has been out of print for a while now, but there are still used copies floating around that can easily be found online wherever used books are sold. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to know more about what abortion was like in this country pre-Roe.
This book is not for the faint of heart; there are stories in it that will curl your hair. But this information has never been more vitally important than it is now.

(73,903 posts)had friends who did. my small town was lucky, there was an obgyn who did them on the qt. (everyone knew). but he was very spendy.
it was legal in wis in those days and there was a weekly bus to a clinic over the state line. had a friend who did that, and bled like crazy when she got back. they did a crappy job, and she cd do nothing but cross her fingers and hope. the public hospital probably did more than they admitted. you couldnt get a d&c for a miscarriage at the catholic hospital unless u were married. even then, they grilled u while u bled.
i remember very well when the very catholic president of the cook co board woke up 1 morning and decreed there wd b no more abortions at cook co hospital, even for botched abortions. they closed down the ward. have often wondered how many women died cuz of that man.
i knew more than a few girls and women who wd have ended pregnancies if it werent for the stigma, including my sister. they kicked her out of catholic school as soon as they found out she was pg. 🙄🙄🙄
i went to the same school and had a nun who hated ME for it.

(64,544 posts)over the last ten years. I'm guessing that women can't get access to birth control because of closed clinics. I haven't checked to see if rape statistics are up. And I suspect the unsteady economy has people wondering if they shod delay having kids or simply avoid it.

(19,400 posts).... but that is where the Fascists want for our society to be. Putting women in danger ? Oh well,... just have the baby as God planned. Family Planning is God's job,... but not woman's and not man's.

(61,085 posts)Yesterday when I saw Hillary's post, I read it to my husband because I loved how accurate, concise andon target those 2 short sentences were.
Neither of even remotely questioned the use of the word people. This is a winning message. Any one who came of age before Roe v Wade understands the second even if we didn't know anyone harmed by it.
