(51,550 posts)Yes, the problems you list are huge and should not be disregarded for "a good time." But this is not just some mindless joke. It serves a purpose--as purpose that supports a solution to those problems. By shaming the Tea Party and making it clear it/they are a joke, we help create a receptive atmosphere for our message. Yes, times suck. But we don't need to make them suck even more by being humorless. Humor lifts our spirits and gives us energy, while eviscerating the object of the joke. That is why people say "humor is the best weapon."
