Show of hands...anyone on DU just realizing this about Trump in 2026? Is there anyone here who DIDN'T KNOW THIS ABOUT TRUMP in his first term, or WELL BEFORE he waddled down the escalator in 2015 with his Slovenian sex worker wife?@stevenbeschloss.bsky.social

We are being held hostage by an utter buffoon, who lacks one iota of self-awareness and responds to an obvious humiliation by lashing out against his perceived enemies and puffing himself up as the greatest solution to all of our problems.

(10,786 posts)How can you expect unity when the pres constantly belittles the Dumbocrats?
Not to mention all the detentions without due process?
Lets see Trump exhibit even an iota of unity.

(24,653 posts)No official announcement or network ban indicates that Michael Beschloss has permanently stopped appearing on MS NOW (formerly MSNBC). Instead, his lower frequency of appearances reflects a general shift in network priorities and his active schedule outside of cable news. The primary reasons behind the change in his on-air presence include:Network RestructuringFollowing the corporate spinoff of MSNBC from Comcast/NBC Universal, the network rebranded to MS NOW. While core programming has remained consistent, the network's independent news operation has shifted its day-to-day focus, slightly reducing regular panels featuring historical commentators.

(24,653 posts)There are multiple reasons for being outraged over this.
Obviously, the expense to taxpayers, and the fact that no one will see the actual balance sheets on what we're paying.
Then, of course, the fact that Trump just does an end-run around Congress when he gets a whim.
But equally disgusting is the fact that we don't elect presidents to build ballrooms, build arches in tribute to themselves, or build wrestling rings on White House grounds.
Add in his 3 day golf weekends and his 3 goals for re-election all become clear.
1). Avoid prison
2). Line his pockets
3). Seek revenge against his real and imagined enemies
There are many layers within those three categories, but that's the "high level view."
He never had a moment's interest in actually being president for all Americans, making them safer, or making their lives better.

(34,743 posts)He's a pitiful old psychopath with access to the nuclear codes and ALL OUR TAX DOLLARS.
I disagree with SB. It's way worse than having a buffoon in charge.
He needs to learn how to spot a psychopath.
1. Aggressive, callous, and cunning
2. Complete absence of conscience and empathy
3. Very adept at manipulating others
4. Willingness to engage in immoral, criminal conduct
5. Willingness to take what they want and do as they please, regardless of who is hurt or wronged
6. Deceptive ability to appear outwardly benevolent
7. Deceptive ability to behave in superficially charming ways to hide purely selfish motives
8. Willingness to use intimidation and violence to control others in order to satisfy their own needs
9. Willingness to intentionally violate the basic inherent human rights of others
10. Complete absence of any sense of guilt or remorse for the harm their actions have caused to others
11. Rationalization of their own immoral behavior
12. Will attempt to lay blame upon someone else for their own conduct
13. Denial, will deny their own wrongdoing outright
14. Utter contemptuousness toward the feelings and desires of their fellow beings
15. Pathological lying, will say anything without any concern for truth to advance their own hidden agendas
16. Ablity to feign [fake] normal human emotions and empathy
17. Distorted sense of the consequences of their actions
18. Total failure to accept any responsibility for their own socially irresponsible ways
19. Strong bellef that they will never be brought to justice for their criminal behavior

(24,653 posts)...and yet, somehow, society wants to cling to the totally false, fabricated, perpetuated image of Trump as "a fabulously successful self-made billionaire businessman, a real estate tycoon.
Everyone I named...INCLUDING TRUMP...had a severe disconnect in their brains which liberated them from ANY concerns about the law, morality, decency, and whatever "glue" holds a society together.
I fed this into a Google AI search: "Has Mark Burnett ever expressed regret over creating the Trump Apprentice character?"
This is what came back:
Instead of addressing regret, Burnetts public statements and actions have centered on the following areas:
Explicit Political Disavowal
During the 2016 presidential electionamid intense pressure for him to leak damaging, unaired Apprentice outtakesBurnett issued a rare public statement through his PR representative. He explicitly stated:"
I am not now and have never been a supporter of Donald Trump's candidacy. I am NOT 'Pro-Trump'... Further, my wife and I reject the hatred, division and misogyny that has been a very unfortunate part of his campaign."
Silence on His Creative Legacy
Despite condemning the rhetoric of Trumps campaign, Burnett has consistently refused to look back with regret or critically analyze how The Apprentice packaged Trump as a highly successful, commanding corporate titan. Close associates and media analysts have noted that Burnett protects the Apprentice brand fiercely, as it is a foundational pillar of his career and financial success.

(53,704 posts)knew he was a clownish buffoon with no moral compass whatsoever. Even the media treated his initial campaign as a joke, a publicity stunt.
No one thought he could win, but being he put on such a spectacle, the MSM started giving him much too much attention. Ratings tend to upstage responsible news reporting. Plenty of blame to go around.

(24 posts)You could see it back then. I think the only reason why the right's rank and file refuses to see this is they like to judge others and just hate other people. (The right's big wigs just want your money and to keep you down.) I know that is the reason for my family. Generations of people brainwashed by faux news. There is a barbershop in town that during covid had a hand sanitizer station with the sign "Liberal Tears" on it. My son saw that and walked right out. I'll never set foot in there; fuck them. I want a personal Mea Culpa from each of them. They each need to go through the AA 12 steps and see they harm they've done with their cult.

(14,027 posts)A few things spring to mind.
Trump lacks certain qualities which the British traditionally esteem.
For instance, he has no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility, no honour and no grace all qualities, funnily enough, with which his predecessor Mr. Obama was generously blessed.
So for us, the stark contrast does rather throw Trumps limitations into embarrassingly sharp relief.
Plus, we like a laugh. And while Trump may be laughable, he has never once said anything wry, witty or even faintly amusing not once, ever.
I dont say that rhetorically, I mean it quite literally: not once, not ever. And that fact is particularly disturbing to the British sensibility for us, to lack humour is almost inhuman.
But with Trump, its a fact. He doesnt even seem to understand what a joke is his idea of a joke is a crass comment, an illiterate insult, a casual act of cruelty.
Trump is a troll. And like all trolls, he is never funny and he never laughs; he only crows or jeers.
And scarily, he doesnt just talk in crude, witless insults he actually thinks in them. His mind is a simple bot-like algorithm of petty prejudices and knee-jerk nastiness.
There is never any under-layer of irony, complexity, nuance or depth. Its all surface.
Some Americans might see this as refreshingly upfront.
Well, we dont. We see it as having no inner world, no soul.
And in Britain we traditionally side with David, not Goliath. All our heroes are plucky underdogs: Robin Hood, Dick Whittington, Oliver Twist.
Trump is neither plucky, nor an underdog. He is the exact opposite of that.
Hes not even a spoiled rich-boy, or a greedy fat-cat.
Hes more a fat white slug. A Jabba the Hutt of privilege.
And worse, he is that most unforgivable of all things to the British: a bully.
That is, except when he is among bullies; then he suddenly transforms into a snivelling sidekick instead....
See the link for the rest. Every word, spot on!!
