Latest polls in California Governor race. Buckle up, people.

Emerson College Poll: Becerra 28, Steyer 22, Hilton 21.
Berkeley IGS Poll: Becerra 25, Hilton 21. Steyer 19

The Emerson Poll is more recent having been taken between May 27 and 28, while the Berkeley Poll was taken May 19-24.

Looks like it is a real possibility that we will have two Dems on the ballot!

It can take all week to count mail-in ballots, and I think a decent chunk of people held theirs until the last minute to see how things were shaping up. I mailed mine on Thursday or Friday, and my partner didn't even bother until yesterday.

And yes, the mail in ballots will take a while. Too bad we can't start counting them earlier.

I waited to vote until Tuesday so I could see the latest polls.

Objective 1. Get one Dem into final two - really never a doubt
Objective 2. Get two dems into the finals.

So will vote for Steyer and let the two dems fight it out in the General.

Porter really should have dropped out 45 days ago, strike 2 for her.

We just need to ensure there's two Dem fighting it out in the general.

Instead of a Dem that's already been beat up in the primaries against a smug Faux talking head carpetbagger who took notes.

Sorry if you were joking but to answer it, there is no way that Hilton could win against any Dem. He regularly polls at twenty percent and even if he picked up ten more from Bianco that's only thirty percent. Add together all the Dem percentages to get what the Democratic candidate would receive. With Porter's eight, and Steyer's 20 and Becerra's twenty three, you are already way above that. And that doesn't even count the lower level Dems single digit numbers which would also go to the Dem.

Tend to fall into three or four different ideological camps, and there are way too many will figuratively cut their noses off and not vote for Governor rather than hold them if the "wrong" Democrat wins the primary.
And then, we end up with a Jill Stein / Harambe protest or non-voting situation because one tools too much corporate money and is associated with California third way types, and the other is a very populist Billionaire who made his money through questionable financial business activities, and no one really knows if he's a Pritzker or a Romney.

And that's how the GOP sneaks in. Hinton easily has the Faux viewers and can peel off the more centrist "we're the educated and hard working Democrat" NIMBY types who just don't appreciate why the poor or homeless people are still visible near their upper middle class neighborhoods.
On edit - Never forget. Though I'm looking at the National elections, there were Democrats who voted for Trump in '16 because they were swayed by the Social Media blitz, not to mention the amount who voted third party or protest write ins, along with too many that stayed home.
Just as there were even more Democrats that didn't vote for Harris in 2024, same reason.
And honestly, the last Governor's race in California was pretty much still a Democratic shoe in at the time; Newsom was still highly regarded within the Jerry and Willie Brown Coalitions.
The Tech Bros were just starting to stink, and his reputation hadn't yet visibly started to split from progressive policies to more Centrist pro-business policies.
This time around, our coalitions are not quite as united as they were then. So, yeah.
60% can easily become 40% if angered Democratic voters don't want to hold their noses, The 30% GOP can coalesce and blitz Social Media highlighting their carpetbagging talking head to pick up independents and the more privileged Center-Right Dem voters on a "pragmatic" pro-Tech and Business, and a "Compassionate Conservative" platform .("Yes, we aren't MAGA, we promise to support the First Amendment and safe communities and only go after the real criminals and divisive Terrorists" ).

I remember how "the Governator" stole the office from a far more qualified but lackluster Democratic Governor in California, even as Davis was in the process of successfully fixing California's economy...

campaign. Is he going to double that if he runs against Becerra — close to a half billion..? He’s had nonstop attack ads on Becerra.

We had a visitor from the Steyer campaign the other day. Steyer’s been the only campaign going door to door that I’ve seen. He was a very nice young man, not a flippant bro type. We had a nice quick chat and I took his literature. He was a real asset to Steyer.

Ignore Mahan and Porter. Steyer is our best bet for knocking Hilton off the ballot.

I always do this. I LOVE voting, always have and always will. Dropping it off in person is a joy for me. I always would take my little dogs to the polls and they were given I VOTED stickers (all of their stuffed animals still have the stickers on them).

I taught my 1st graders the voting process and we voted all the time for everything and it was all done by them, not me. I would also take them on a "field trip" every year to the polling area in the cafeteria. They were as quiet as mice, polite, listened and asked good questions. The people working at the polls would give them a mini-lesson and they thought my kids were so cute. In class they chose the topic, the options, and passed out slips of paper. They had their "privacy boards" up (no peaking) and they voted anonymously. They collected the papers, they tallied the votes and they got to have 100% control of all of it. I just sat amd observed. We'd vote for what game to play at recess, what topping should go on the pizzas at our class parties, etc. I gave them I VOTED stickers in 4 languages (my classes were multi cultural).

I still write to former students and they remember these lessons!

Polls are notroriusly wrong these days and there were so many undecideds that I decided to vote for the candidate of my choice and not play games.

I never believed California would put to repubs at the top of the jungle primary so I believed even if my candidate did not make it there would be a Dem to vote for as our new Governor.

We'll know more today and in the coming days but I feel pretty good that my candidate, Tom Steyer, will make the cut.

If not, I will vote for Becerra in the general and hope for the best.
