(1,255 posts)Meloni is a conservative and right-wing populist who is also a critic of globalism. She is opposed to euthanasia, same-sex marriage, and same-sex parenting, stating that nuclear families are exclusively headed by malefemale pairs. Meloni supported (but never enacted) a naval blockade to halt illegal immigration, and she has been described as xenophobic and Islamophobic by some critics. A supporter of NATO, she maintains Eurosceptic views regarding the European Union (EU), views she describes as "Eurorealist". She favoured improved relations with Russia before the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, which she condemned, pledging to keep sending arms to Ukraine. In 2024, Forbes ranked Meloni as the third-most-powerful woman in the world and she was listed amongst the most influential people in the world by Time magazine, while Politico ranked her as the most powerful person in Europe in 202

(2,272 posts)That shouldn't override the 95+% of things they are in lock step on to make you like her. You shouldn't like a fascist just because she doesn't want to be seen as begging for a picture when she's homophobic, anti-immigrant, etc.

Trump is objectively worse on almost every measure. And Italian politics are of no concern to me.

Politically, she was an ally of Trump.

(53,537 posts)"The only substantive difference between Benito Mussolini and Giorgia Meloni is Meloni wears lipstick." The woman is a literal, card-carrying Italian Fascist.
The thing is, Mussolini wouldn't have liked Trump either. They say Mussolini made the trains run on time. Trump would shut down the trains in a heartbeat if he thought there was money in it for him.

Might want to take a look at the history of her rise to power.
Even going no deeper than wikipedia makes it clear what sort of a world view she supports
