not so nice kitteh: Mass. Pair Attacked By Bobcat in Garage

A Massachusetts man and his nephew are recovering after being attacked by a bobcat in the man’s suburban garage.

Roger Mundell Jr., 53, and his 15-year-old nephew, Michael Granger, will find out later today if they contracted rabies after both were mauled by a bobcat Sunday morning. Mundell and Granger told ABC News they have already started treatment for the disease as a precaution.

Mundell, Granger and a friend were working on a project Sunday morning when Mundell entered his garage in rural Brookfield, Mass., to fetch some some straps. Rounding a car, he heard a hissing sound and Mundell says that without warning, the bobcat pounced on his head, sinking its teeth into his face and clawing his back.

on my horse.

When I kept my horse on at a defunct quarter horse training facility, there was an old track. It was in a rural area, so wild critters were common. I was trotting my horse around the track one morning, warming up for some other work, when a bobcat popped out of the tall brush next to the track and trotted alongside us for about 30 yards, then leaped across in front of us to the brush in the center of the track.

Neither my horse nor the bobcat reacted at all.

I've sometimes seen bobcats when out trail riding; once, I stopped the horse about 25 yards away and watched quietly for an extended period of time; the cat was frozen outside a burrow, waiting for an opportunity. The cat had more patience than I; I eventually rode on, and the cat stayed frozen, never acknowledging our presence.

What was a bobcat doing in the garage???
