Mississippi Guv: Criminals Can Get High-Capacity Magazines From The Soviet Union

Pushing back against one of several gun control proposals unveiled by President Barack Obama, Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant (R) on Wednesday said that criminals will be able to eschew any new federal law by obtaining high-capacity magazines from a foreign state that has been dissolved for more than two decades.

"If they want a 30-round clip, they're going to get it out of Brazil or the Soviet Union," Bryant said at a press conference, as quoted by the Associated Press. "It's going to go on the black market. Self-protecting citizens won't have that right, but criminals will."

The Soviet Union collapsed in 1991.

Bryant also preempted the White House's news conference on Wednesday by posting a letter on his Facebook page in which he urged state lawmakers to block any of Obama's executive actions that might undermine the Second Amendment.

the recent Science and Engineering Readiness Index, Mississippi ranked 50th for high school students on their performance in physics and calculus. The Magnolia State also came in last on the National Assessment of Educational Progress survey earlier this year. It often rates last on high school graduation rates; some surveys have found that nearly 30 percent of Mississippi high school students drop out.

Mississippi is also a state that, at various times, has had the highest percentage of low birth-weight babies, children living in poverty, and children in single-parent families. All of these affect education in the Southern state. So does the severe budget cuts that the state has suffered in recent years.

edit..30 round AK-47 magazines were produced in unbelievable quantities because they were designed to be disposable in the field of war.

Is there no effort to return some sanity to our nation you Delicate Flowers can't find a reason to not implement?

What an awful sickness to be under the spell of.

What's "wrong with me," is that there are thousands dying from "The Precious" every year, and the Delicate Flowers can do is find a reason EVERY effort to slow or stop the massacres, won't work.

That's what fucking wrong with me.

What the fuck is wrong with you?

Giving some information is not the same as agreeing with said information. You made a (stupid) assumption and got called on it and went on the attack. Sounds like you're the poor delicate flower that can't handle a conversation.

likelihood that Lanza's mother would have had a high capacity magazine if they had been illegal all along. The clown in Aurora may or may not have a 100 round drum magazine, but I doubt he would have had one if you could not buy one at most sporting goods stores or online.

If I am a drug dealer I probably could get whatever I wanted, but that is not the point.

Also the Gov. doesn't seem to know the difference between a clip and a magazine.

His 100 round super stupid magazine jammed making his scary looking rifle a paperweight so he went for the non scary looking shotgun and handguns.

end. You can see a picture of it dropped outside the theater with a 30 round magazine inserted into it. I don't know if he was ever able to clear the jam.

What if the 100 round magazine had worked as intended? Are we going to rely on the inability of the magazine manufacturers to get it right to keep the body count down?

At least at open ranges were you are observed, a ban on high capacity magazines will prevent shooters from getting it right. I saw a video of someone using four drum 100 round magazines and getting all the shots off without a jam so it is possible.

Maybe it is a strategy - hey buy these 30 and 100 round magazines, they will let you down when you need them most, but we want your money.
