A Look Inside The Life Of A Weirdo, Gun Troll

You know the type. They troll this board and others, and all they do is go from gun thread to gun thread nitpicking your terminology and definitions, attempting to derail the conversation etc. They scream about LIBERTEE!!! and FREEEDUMMSSSS!!! and INFRINGEMENT of RIGHTS!!! Blah blah blah.

Well, TPM has a terrific post up, that includes a look inside the life of these weirdo freaks who make it their mission to defend a status quo that leads directly to maniacs, weirdos and freaks being able to EASILY get their hands on weapons of mass slaughter that give them the capability to mow down a Kindergarten class in minutes.

Read the whole thing, but here's a segment that pretty much encapsulates who these people are and why THEY are the one's who we should probably be focusing on. These are the very people who SHOULD NEVER be allowed to handle fire arms. Freaks and weirdos:

•There is the Facebook “friend” from high school who huffed a lot of gas and never got higher than a C in any class (especially history/social studies)? Yep, he is now an (unofficial) sniper in the anti-fascist militia and a legal expert. He changed his avatar to an AR-15. Now watch this Sandy Hook Truther video he just posted!
• There is the uncle who has held like 80 different jobs, thought that removing lead from gasoline was Communism, and used to send me every paranoid conspiracy theory chain-email ever made until my mocking responses finally made him stop? Yep, finally got an (unpaid) job as Constitutional Scholar, varmit-destroyer, and protector of free society.
• There is the cousin-in-law who got a job as a cop and then was quietly let go like two weeks later for reasons no one will tell me, and who now plays shoot-em up video games all day. His new milita-member duty is mocking people who call a “magazine” a “clip” and informing them that if they can’t name all the parts of weapon correctly, they have no business having opinions about it.

Don’t get me wrong. I grew up in small town Rocky Mountains. Everyone had guns, and they weren’t all like the characters above. Some people have a rifle they only pull out of a safe in hunting season. The problem is the characters above are the ones that have the 10 gun arsenals.

Maybe we should go for ban on everything but single shot BB guns with lever action. Maybe then we could meet at a reasonable available weapons.

and informing them that if they can’t name all the parts of weapon correctly, they have no business having opinions about it.'

So true. Often seen on DU in recent weeks.

While we're at it, let's make sure that those who can't accurately describe all parts of an internal combustion engine have no say in fuel economy discussions, and those who don't know an embryo curtain from a hook echo have no business discussing the weather.

So let me introduce myself. I’m a non-gun person. And I think I’m speaking for a lot of people.

It’s customary and very understandable that people often introduce themselves in the gun debate by saying, ‘Let me be clear: I’m a gun owner.’

Well, I want to be part of this debate too. I’m not a gun owner and, as I think as is the case for the more than half the people in the country who also aren’t gun owners, that means that for me guns are alien. And I have my own set of rights not to have gun culture run roughshod over me.

I don’t have any problem with people using guns to hunt. And I don’t have any problem with people having guns in their home for protection or because it’s a fun hobby. At least, I recognize that gun ownership is deeply embedded in American culture. That means not only do I not believe there’s any possibility of changing it but that I don’t need or want to change it. This is part of our culture. These folks are Americans as much as I am and as long as we can all live together safely I don’t need to or want to dictate how they live.

like you, I know - and am also related to - many gun owners. In no sense do they have arsenals, nor do they believe that they need them. They find these NRA TP trolls as pathetic - and as frightening - as any of us here on DU.

13. Thanks for your passing of judgment. Duly noted in the parthenon of stampeding hate rhetoric.

FYI - I am a quite liberal gun owner who does think that if you want to credibly pass judgment on anything, that a basic knowledge of the topic is a bare minimum.

Everyone of course, may have opinion, but yeah, everyone has one.

Talk is cheap. Actually knowing what you are talking about has a price tag.

19. What defines "Basic Knowledge"?
Fri Jan 18, 2013, 05:53 PM
Jan 2013

In terms of guns. They kill people. That's basic enough. Semi autos kill lots of people very fast and are apparently very easy for maniacs to get their hands on. That's all I need to know.

it wants its stampeding hate rhetoric back

you have lost both your roman and greek reference credibility
as well as your privilege to discuss ancient history

or shall we all pay the dire price of getting your gist without being petty?

Define "define"!!!11!!

And on and on and on.....

The ultra-nitpick defense has had a long life here at DU.
I am glad the rest of us are now talking to each other regularly about these gun-nut tactics.
