LINCOLN College students in Omaha and Lincoln will call for a boycott of Anheuser-Busch beers to raise awareness about the impact of alcoholism on Native Americans in the northwest Nebraska village of Whiteclay.
The boycott will be announced Tuesday by the Whiteclay Awareness Student Organization at Creighton University, according to a news release. Student representatives from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and University of Nebraska-Lincoln also will participate.
Critics hold stores in Whiteclay responsible for alcoholism and bootlegging on the nearby Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. The town has about a dozen residents, but its alcohol retailers sold the equivalent of 4.3 million, 12-ounce cans of beer last year.
