Man posts on Facebook: 'im about to get shot'; gets shot

http://news.cnet.com/8301-17852_3-57564850-71/man-posts-on-facebook-im-about-to-get-shot-gets-shot/

It seems that people want to announce everything on Facebook, even their imminent demise.

30-year-old Eric L. Ramsey knew his time was up, so he took out his cell phone and posted on his Facebook wall: "Well folkes [sic] im about to get shot. Peace"

As NBC News reports, some of his friends thought he was joking.

However, shortly after his 3:15 a.m. post, he was fatally shot by a policeman.

The guy was wanted for attempted kidnapping and rape, assault, setting a house on fire, stealing a trash truck and smashing two cop cars with it.

But it's a bit personal for me. I have a younger cousin who goes to CMU, and I have friends with kids who go to CMU. People there have been terrified. I don't find it funny.

We've heard so many stories like this that we've gotten somewhat numb to them. In this case, it sounds like someone lost their life, so it really isn't a laughing matter. I apologize for my silly reaction.

Good golly, this was a one man crime wave.

People seem to be struck in a strange way by the fact that he would post an update to Facebook prior to being shot. There is something unusual about that, as Facebook tends to be where people post pictures of their pet cats and whatnot. Hence, the reaction is to the fact of posting an update to Facebook while engaged in the unspeakable series of actions he took.

My cousin is a freshman. She hasn't been away from home for more than a few months, and this happens at her school. It really scared her - maybe just the knowledge that stuff like this happens in real life and not just the movies and could happen to her - regardless of whether it was "a one-man crime wave."

I guess what I'm trying to say is that people are reacting to the Facebook posting thing, not the underlying crime thing.
