Scalia will never risk having anyone more moderate than him (and there are few who are less so) appoint his replacement. And without this job Thomas has nothing.

He is an intellectual lightweight; he almost never asks questions on the bench, often does not write opinions and when he does, his opinions lack any rigor at all.
