and Mrs. Obama is a marvelous First Lady, the most glamerous since Jackie Kennedy.

(24,791 posts)on how they got looser as the dances and night progressed.
This is an inhuman tradition which should be dropped: making them dance in front of essentially millions, under bright lights. I don't know who but them could pull this off!

(135,425 posts)dance floor--with EVERYONE ELSE. People would cut in, and everything! Even the non-dancers at least MINGLED...! There was actual food and booze and cakes and so forth...
Those days are gone, sadly....
Here's Ike and Mamie watching everyone else dance (guess they weren't rug-cutters):
Here are the Kennedys (and LBJ and quite a few other recognizable people) partying down IN the crowd:
Even Nixon got down:
It is only in recent years that they've started to separate the POTUS/FLOTUS and put them on a stage alone and not allow them to mix it up with the attendees.

(14,887 posts)thing last night. I remember Clinton's first inaugural, everyone danced briefly before they were whisked away to another ballroom. The President's home state usually 'sponsored' a ball. I think it all changed under dimson - like everything else.

(135,425 posts)Poor Nixon. He was creepy, wasn't he? Always so sweaty, awkward, nervous and over-eager...and when he wasn't that, he was brooding and evil and rather scary!

(42,770 posts)What an asshole.
grossed me out then, and of course still does.
In gravid seriousness this memento illustrates a lot.
It shows how far we have come and what we overcame. I maintain that the fact we had this moron/dunce/asshat for a President was the main reason we as a country managed to elect our current President. Our vomitous frustration allowed this historic occurrence.
The re-election, decisive as it was even in the face of the best efforts of the dunces on all levels, is a wondrous thing that happened as a reward of President Obamas achievements and I'm so grateful and happy!
And what about a first lady who is not fried egg eye stoned on whatever it took to allow her to manage.

(23,309 posts)of these 2 idiots dancing and looking at the camera. It was hanging on a wall in the kitchen. The buyers were my cousin and her husband. My cousin had ALS and was at the stage where she could barely speak and was on crutches. She tapped me on the shoulder, pointed toward the photo, then opened her mouth, stuck her tongue out and pointed her finger as if to say "gag me". Luckily, the owners weren't home because I let out a big guffaw. She died shortly after Obama took office in 2009.

(13,776 posts)So beautiful and sweet, yet so regal.
I've been thinking all day how *unspeakably grateful* I am that it was the two of them in the spotlight today, and not the Romneys. They would have looked so smug and anointed... in comparison to the delightful video of the Obama family in the viewing stand today. I'm glad for today the way I am glad for food on the table and a roof over my head.
