BOO HOO, Conservatives Did Not Like Obama's Inauguration Speech? TOO BAD!

Drum says, “Did conservatives take these lines as obvious, personal attacks? You betcha. I would too, if I were them.

To Mitt Romney: “The commitments we make to each other through Medicare and Medicaid and Social Security….do not make us a nation of takers.”

To the climate change denialists: “Some may still deny the overwhelming judgment of science, but none can avoid the devastating impact of raging fires, and crippling drought, and more powerful storms.”

To the neocons: “We, the people, still believe that enduring security and lasting peace do not require perpetual war.”

To the voter suppression gangs in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and elsewhere: “Our journey is not complete until no citizen is forced to wait for hours to exercise the right to vote.”

To the NRA: “Our journey is not complete until all our children, from the streets of Detroit to the hills of Appalachia to the quiet lanes of Newtown, know that they are cared for and cherished and always safe from harm.”

To the entire tea party wing of the GOP: “We cannot mistake absolutism for principle or substitute spectacle for politics, or treat name-calling as reasoned debate.”

If "conservatives" find Obama's remarks to be offensive... Too bad. Why should I or anyone spare the usual fake outrage of radicals who reject science, equal rights, & peace?

What is not so funny at all is the number of DUers who took it upon themselves yesterday and today to "take it personally" and be offended by God, and an Abolitionist anti-slavery hymn, and a Civil Rights icon who is a Christian and mentioned Jesus ("and all other holy" beings), and call Obama a murderer of children (drones), and every other thing they could spew to spoil the day and defame the man and utterly miss the point.

I love it that genuine progressives like Paul Krugman and Adele Stan of AlterNet and Eugene Robinson are hailing this speech as a truly great progressive speech, one that sets the tone and the agenda for the next four years.

I have not been around here for long, but I have come to believe that there is a huge gap of real-world experience here. The single-focus, knee-jerk obsessiveness I have observed would never work in the real world. I have (painfully) learned to stay away from certain topics.

I thought the use of The Battle Hymn of the Republic was brilliant. If you go to the lyrics, it's a modern-day slap in the face to the republicans and, more succinctly, the 'baggers.

"a huge gap of real-world experience here"? Really? Again, respectfully, maybe you should read more before you post. I read DU for years before posting because I like reading about people's "real world experiences" more than I like writing about my own, and there's a ton of it here.
I had no objection to the "Battle Hymn of the Republic." It was beautifully done and brought tears to my eyes, just like whenever I sang it in church. That said, I am also a bit alarmed that religion (especially one religion) has come to play such a huge role in our government. I read about that great experiment when a single religion ruled the world, it was called the "Dark Ages."

Why is the complaint that the president not reaching out to the opposition getting so much air time? What about the GOP reaching out to the president? They certainly didn't during his first term where their only agenda was to make Obama a one term president at the expense of the good of the country. Let them do the reaching out, they lost!!!

Hughh mega corporations own the networks. And own the people working for them, by and large.

There are other corollaries to that, like the false equivalency (and gossopy speculation) that has become the sad default of "news" programming. Or like lazy journalism, where getting easy viewer hits is the priority and the audience is over propagandized, worried, overstressed, overworked and intellectually rusty. It's easier to pander to base urges and emotions.

The people who hate Obama the most are the poster children for the decline that results from this state of affairs!

Screw those parasites that get everything for nothing in this country. Get those bums out of office. Get the money out of politics and get rid of the electoral college. That will take care of the gerrymandering. Each vote should count. None of their criminal intent should be able to hinder that. They claim they're Christian. They are the total opposite. "Power to the greedy, horny, white, male cheaters and theives and kill those that don't agree with us". That's their mantra.

The republiCON standard "WE GOT TO CUT THE SPENDING!" "WE GOT TO CUT THE SPENDING! Why in the hell do they think we voted for him and this bullshit about how their feeling are hurt because he is telling the truth and saying what he has always said on the campaign trail.

What is the problem, did he have a little too much bass in his voice. Kiss our asses republiCONS! The media should be asking you over and over,"WHERE ARE THOSE JOBS YOU PROMISED THE COUNTRY IN 2010! Cantor,Ryan,Jeb Henserling,McConnell,Boner, and the rest of you GOP liars! WHY HAVEN'T YOU PASSED THE JOBS BILLS,THE INFRASTRUCTURE BILLS.so that we can get this party started its not about one man it is about WE THE PEOPLE!

These old Dinasaurs like Bob Woodard,David Gergen and the Bill O'lielly's keep running on every network spouting this shit about the deficit O'lielly says when did the country change?
It couldn't have changed that quickly,O'lielly said last night. O'lielly is shocked and amazed because he and the others are living in lala land where they only interact with certain people.

When is someone going to ask them how they are going to create any jobs and we don't want to hear this shit about how small business owners need another tax cut how many do they need they got plenty in the stimulus bill and continued to complained.

Pull yourselves up by your bootstraps like they tell everyone who doesn't have a job or a business. If you created a business why do you need help from the government when you hate the government so much. WHERE ARE THE FUCKING JOBS REPUBLICONS???????REMEMBER 2010!???

At one point he talked one of the bubble headed bleach blond reporters ( I know few of their names) about the president's climate change remarks. She said something like many Republicans are not so sure about the reality of climate change, and Shep said something like, they really need to start listening to science.
Shep continued until everyone went in to eat lunch, then the crazies took over.. guess Shep went to eat lunch too, I know I did.

Well the pointed replies to CONservativists are all the best--it's clear to me that Prez Obama knows very well what needs to be done; the difficulties accomplishing change over the past four years is not due to myopia nor corporatism on his part.....

Anyway, my fav is this:

To the entire tea party wing of the GOP: “We cannot mistake absolutism for principle or substitute spectacle for politics, or treat name-calling as reasoned debate.”
