Yesterday, as a friend and I were having lunch, she told me about the experience of a former co-worker, applying for a job with United Health Care's office here. I was disgusted, but, alas, not surprised, by what she said.
(a little backstory here. both of them worked as directory assistance operators for the qwest office here, until it closed several years ago. they were members of the CWA--communications workers union)
My friend's former co-worker told her that she had been told by United that they would not hire anybody who had been at qwest, since the union protected all of them, and they were all incompetent. they would only hire people who had not been in a union, because those were the only ones they knew to be competent.
This story is disgusting on so many levels. I planned on calling the local united office today, but I am still too furious to be calm. If anybody here has any helpful ideas about what I can say that won't get me arrested, I would appreciate it.
thanks in advance.
