it at the same time.

Maybe they'll stop doing it when news of school shootings becomes a dime a dozen as dreary as it is to say.

He said he was at his local gun shop recently and there were huge lines waiting to buy anything because everyone thinks the government is coming to take their guns.

As we know, guns are more important than the lives of people, so hopefully no guns were hurt in this shooting.

No one knows ANYTHING about the shooters mental health... but that's where the MSNBC color commentator went.

So here is a summary of Texas Law.

http://www.ncsl.org/issues-research/justice/possession-of-a-firearm-by-the-mentally-ill.aspx

A person is ineligible for a license to carry a concealed weapon if the person:
(1) has been diagnosed by a licensed physician as suffering from a psychiatric disorder or condition that causes or is likely to cause substantial impairment in judgment, mood, perception, impulse control, or intellectual ability;
(2) suffers from a psychiatric disorder or condition described by Subdivision (1) that: (A) is in remission but is reasonably likely to redevelop at a future time; or (B) requires continuous medical treatment to avoid redevelopment;
(3) has been diagnosed by a licensed physician, determined by a review board or similar authority, or declared by a court to be incompetent to manage the person's own affairs; or
(4) has entered in a criminal proceeding a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity.

The following constitutes evidence that a person has a psychiatric disorder or condition described by section (1), above:
(1) involuntary psychiatric hospitalization;
(2) psychiatric hospitalization;
(3) inpatient or residential substance abuse treatment in the preceding five-year period;
(4) diagnosis in the preceding five-year period by a licensed physician that the person is dependent on alcohol, a controlled substance, or a similar substance; or
(5) diagnosis at any time by a licensed physician that the person suffers or has suffered from a psychiatric disorder or condition consisting of or relating to:
(A) schizophrenia or delusional disorder;
(B) bipolar disorder;
(C) chronic dementia, whether caused by illness, brain defect, or brain injury;
(D) dissociative identity disorder;
(E) intermittent explosive disorder; or
(F) antisocial personality disorder.

on MSNBC...Talk about pushing a meme on the public!

Yes, DU there is not bigotry involved about blaming the mentally ill. Two gun carriers get in an argument and have a shoot-out in the a college and there is NO talk about bad behavior, but steady pressure on the NRA meme...it's the LUNATICS among us!

What fuck'n phase of the moon is this? We really MUST start keeping track.

First off, that is not true.

LSC is very close to where I live, and I know several people who attend ... all have been contacted and none are involved, a couple were there.

LSC is in Harris county Texas, which although close, went for Barrack in the latest election.

LCS has many campus locations, the one in question is around 249/1960. Well that is certainly not one of the poorer neighborhoods it is not Memorial/River Oaks/Bellaire/Champions/Woodlands or any of the other "affluent" areas.

Even if it was, what has that to do with yet another tragedy?

Turns out that it was not the location near my house, it is the location near my work. The campus is around belt 8 and 45, which is not a good neighborhood at all. I was just corrected by a bartender that attends classes at both campus locations.

Local news here is all over the place, but it reports have it now as a fight that escalated into gunshots. Not, uncommon in the neighborhood around here, I am at work now, where the name of the local mall is Greenspoint ... commonly called "Gunspoint".

It's an issue larger than guns, but a resolution could start with what people think they need them for. A solid requirement for Basic safety training for licensing for any particular weapon would have been nice. Kind of a case of closing the barn door after the horse got out now

I've stayed out of the gun threads; what I think is if the NRA hadn't take such an irresponsible stance, we'd have more responsible gun ownership. In other words if they had an open inclusive attitude instead of screaming second amendment every time responsible checks were suggested, gun culture wouldn't be as sick as it is.

Or maybe it's just inherently sick, I don't know.

There are hunters and hobbyists and perfectly responsible people who own assorted projectile weapons. Maybe even the majority as these owners like to claim. I know a few.
However, Everyone single of them has a story of 'some idiot' who used weapons irresponsibly, the most notable to me personally being my brother in-law, a conservative gun owning biker country boy, who lives right next to an Elk run-- he lives on 6 acres and had three small boys at this time of this incident. A few want to be hunters actually shot UP from the road at an animal, apparently not seeing the large house and attendant structures--including a jungle gym on the hill.

Boy was he pissed. And He didn't see the weapons as responsible. Just 'the idiots'

Seems to me like a couple idiots are just exercising their 2nd Amendment Rights....and some other people got in the way (you know, those that probably don't exercise their 2nd Amendment rights to their potential).
Can't figure out what the big deal is?

After all, if getting your way with a truckload full of cash is "free speech," why is it any different to get your way at the barrel of a gun?

"This is my mouth, muthafucka! Do you want to argue with me?"

How is a $5,000,000 check from the Koch brothers any different? Beside the death part?
