"I am not going to see this again"

I bared the cold most of the day, met all kinds of folks that made all kind of ways to get to DC

Met old,middle-aged and young from every race

The kids were the most impressive to me, they were so thrilled to get a glimpse of The President and Vice President in the parade

I was a small kid once, growing in a small town in Europe, the daughter of immigrants who wanted nothing more than a better life for their kids, I remember when teachers asked what I wanted to do when I grow up, I said an astronaut, and was told that I need not get above my station in life...

Fate conspired for me to be present at 2013 Inauguration a few thousand miles from where I grew up, but just a few feet from where The President and First Lady decided to stop the limo, and get out and walk..

I hope he inspired everyone of those little kids that were screaming his name that were around my feet, I hope he inspired each and every one of those kids to rise above whatever life doles them

A few mins later, Dr Jill Biden came walking around the corner, followed by Joe Biden...

That reminded me, "This is a big fucking deal" "I am not going to see this again"...

I wiped away a tear, I won't be ready for him to leave in 2016..

Except a KnR and a

Once in a great while my husband wonders what life would have been like had his parents stayed in Europe and not come to America in 1954 when he and his brothers were small.... What he believes is that there would have been so many limitations (such as not getting above one's station in life) on his opportunities.

He and I both love Obama and Biden. We won't be ready for him to leave office in 2016 either.

who stayed behind in Europe...

(Ironically, I did end up working for NASA for a while, not an astronaut, but in another technical capacity) but I was overwhelmed in the moment and promise for the next 4 years..

.

And that would be to see someone like Elizabeth Warren take the reins of power from him.

I think she's the best most ardent advocate for the 99% to come along in generations.

And what I found the most touching moment of all was when President Obama turned around as he was leaving to look back at the crowd that had come to see his inauguration. . .people were almost pushing him out of the way, so hurry they seem to get to the next stop of this great day. . .almost unaware that they were almost stepping on the feet of the lead person. . .the President.

He turned around anyway, and he stared at the crowd and said "hold on, I'm not going to see this again!"

I am always amazed how this powerful man, this man who is loved and hated, this man who seems so pragmatic and detached at time, can show this very soft, very human side, the side which is the real motivation for the vision he has for this country. A vision of equality and respect for all.
