If the RW hates welfare so much, why do they keep paying less and less for labor?

Someone needs to tell the far-right the reason more and more people are having to turn to welfare programs is because businesses are not paying people enough money anymore. Right now more than half of new jobs created are under $10 an hour, and many minimum wage. How exactly is a family supposed to live on that wage?

You think people want to be on welfare? That's completely foolish. For most people it is humiliating and embarrassing to ask for assistance. Of course they would rather make enough money to support themselves. Yes, I know a couple people out there are frauding the system. Im not denying that. But the vast majority that are not are unemployed and want to work or single mothers or have become disabled or can't make enough to feed the kids every night. etc. etc.. These people are not frauding the system.

And another thing while Im on this topic...listening to conservatives, they want us to believe that welfare programs are the reason we are in so much debt. That it is the fault of the "moochers" that we can't balance the budget and therefore the programs should be scaled back or even eliminated. This stuff they are talking about..."mooching" as they call it...it's table scraps compared to the waste that is being poured out to corporate welfare and the bloated military contracts.

So maybe instead of bitching and moaning about taxes and debt, the rich should pay their workers more money. Not only will they be able to support themselves and get off welfare, but the tax revenue will go up helping to lower the budget deficit.

just an "all about me argument". I have mine and you could too, if you just worked harder.

It is a false argument, yet it is one that is shoveled out by RW talk radio and TV over and over and over until it becomes a "Truth" to those who blindly accept the drivel.

Like so much in history in my opinion (religion, caste, class, race, etc), it is a tool to divide and conquer, because it has and probably will be "all about the money".

It makes no sense, as the OP highlighted.

Businesses don't want to pay for healthcare, which frankly, I don't blame them.

BUT, they want to get behind the complete opposition to any kind of single payer system.

Then hide behind all the flowery bullshit about pulling yourself up by your boot straps and as you noted, the divide and conquer stuff about all the TAKERS and ball about taxes.

This bucknut jackwagon I know at the gym. Talked to him for years, literally, hard right winger, and despite my rather middle of the road position on things, I was always the liberal. He actually references Rush Limbaugh as if he is a truthful and authoritative source of information, wears these hideous anti-Obama t-shirts.

Big taxes and all those people sucking off the system guy.

But, his wife is ... a public teacher.

I gave up a long time ago trying to talk politics with him, and have worked HARD to not talk politics with him. One day we were talking health care, and he proudly announces how he does not use his private company insurance, but instead is on his wife's because it is cheaper.

I nearly took a 45 plate off his head. He won't pony up to pay the rates for his private sector employeers health care (he sells textooks, which of course are bought by schools with, yes, tax payer dollars) and sucks MY tax dollars for his healthy care.

And, I am the sucking off the tax payer's teet liberal Rush babbles about all day long.

As you noted, all about me, have mine bullshit.

If you're poor, you deserve it.

... and it's one of the main reasons I'm a non-practicing Catholic. Don't tell me that poverty and suffering is inevitable. That poverty, suffering and sacrifice builds character. This is the 21st century. This country could have saved the fucking world, and of course ourselves, by taking the road less traveled. But TPTB took the wrong fork at the "Y" in the road. And Viola', here we are. Poverty, suffering and too much sacrifice kills the spirit of a people. And THEN they start in on the safety net that is literally, and only barely, keeping people alive at all. It has to stop. This country has to right itself, once and for all, or this indeed, is the final fall (fail) of Capitalism and the big experiment called "Democracy."

Let's see... Try to get a job that pays minimum wage and has zero benefits, and that's if I can wait three weeks and beat out the other four people who applied, oh and it doesn't help that the ad says 'Unemployed need not apply'

Or apply for welfare.

Now of course, if conservatives took this to heart, they would make it harder to receive welfare.

and have tons of competition for jobs so they can pay almost nothing. Yes, there will be people starving in the street, but the structure will be based on "liberty" and "choice", so it'll be great. (/sarcasm)

They don't care about poor people at all. They think poor people are lazy and deserve whatever comes to them. Oddly, including the poor people's children and fetuses, because they will also tell you they're "pro-life."

He's not a screaming and spouting teabagger type, but definitely conservative when it comes to finance/economy, a junior member of what might be called "the investor class". He took a few shots at the GOP when we were talking last week, basically echoing what the OP said. He basically said how ironic the situation is when the right keeps saying work hard and get off the dole, yet their policies actively unemploy, or under employ people as a matter of principle.

I didn't gloat or say "I told you so" but casually mused agreement. Maybe there's hope, or hope among the less partisan anyway.

They want shit wages and no safety net, it isn't any sort of balancing act for them.

Hell, they only favor being as generous as shit wages because they don't like the responsibility that goes along with slavery.

the highest population of welfare recipients also live in the most red of states... I think what they want is a return to legalized indentured servitude and outright slavery. It will make them all the more rich and powerful.
