Harry is the go-to guy when the "Democrats" need an excuse about why they caved. blkmusclmachine Jan 2013 #2

Unless we live in Nevada. Even then, we have to wait for his next election campaign and then primary him.

The Senators pick their leader - take it up with yours, if you have a Democratic Senator.

It's the Congress' version of "Bi-partisanship."

and elect a better Democrat.
OR...
Lose the Senate to Republicans.
OR...
He could retire.

The Senate decides who their leadership will be and the voters have no say.

By the way, here's my own speculation about the near-collapse of filibuster reform: I think there might be a number of Senate Democrats who are happy that the Republicans can stonewall legislation with the mere threat of a filibuster.

Why? Because it gives them a built-in excuse for inaction. If passing an important piece of legislation would get them in trouble with some of their big-money donors, but voting against it would get them in trouble with their constituents, a Republican filibuster is the answer to their prayers. They can shrug and say:

"What can we do? Our hands are tied! Darn those Republicans and their filibusters!"

Many (most?) would be Republicans if the Republican Party still permitted sane politicians to be Republicans.
