Norwegian Air Orders 222 Boeing, Airbus Jets to Squeeze SAS

Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA ordered 222 Boeing Co. and Airbus SAS airliners valued at 127 billion kroner ($21.5 billion) as Europe's fourth-biggest discount carrier steps up its competition with state-backed SAS AB.

Norwegian Air will buy the latest fuel-efficient models, ordering 100 Boeing 737 MAX8 single-aisle planes and the same number of Airbus A320neos, plus 22 of Boeing's existing 737- 800s, the Fornebu-based carrier said today in a statement.

______________
This is the biggest order in European aviation history, at a time when most airlines has red numbers. Incredible, ten years ago this company was operating out of a set of old construction barracks near the old Oslo airport.

Certainly good new for Boeing´s and Airbus workers at a time when orders are few and far between.
