The worst are the three who were run over, including my childhood dog. Awful; the others went peacefully, and I am thankful for that. A few years ago we had three, but two are gone, as they each made it to 15 before we had to put them down. Now we have one, and she is 13.

I remember every dog I've ever had since early childhood, even when I can't remember people or events. My first dog was a lab named Sandy. Then Dusty (mutt), Ginger (Irish Setter), Gallo (Sheltie) and Scudsy (chi-weenie), Knuckles (bulldog-boxer, and the hardest loss to bear). We now have Draper (vizsla-boxer), Tito (mess of an epileptic mutt), and Machete (sweet, tiny Chihuahua). The last 5 on the list are/were rescues.

30. I've been, at best, an agnostic most of my life.

We recently lost our beloved Sancho very suddenly. Sancho's greatest joy was to ride in the car. that dog could read body language better than any person I have ever met. If I even thought about going somewhere, he was at the door dancing around and wanting to go. After he left us, the house just seemed too empty and we made the decision to get another dog. One night I was browsing the net and found a beautiful pup available. I bookmarked the page to show my wife. I slept in the next morning and when I came out, she told me she had to show me a puppy she had found. It was the same dog! We when and let Bentley adopt us the very next day.

We've had Bentley for about 3 months now. About 3 weeks ago I needed to run to the store for a couple of items. I grabbed the keys off the hook in the kitchen and Bentley headed for the door, wanting to go with me! He has been a constant companion in the car ever since. I'm beginning to change my mind about the whole karma, afterlife, meaning of life thing. Dogs are a blessing on those with whom they choose to spend their lives.

My rottweiler, Brutus, was just such a soul. The last one was a shelter mutt who was with us for 14 years. I sat with her head in my lap while the vet gave her the injection. When she looked at me for the last time, the love was overwhelming. but by the time I finished reading the entire thread, it was a full-blown cry.

Our little 12yo chi Tweety was going through some difficulties this past week and I thought it was very serious. I actually thought the worst. I was scared. Took her to the vet on Friday and she was diagnosed with either an impacted disk or a pulled muscle or pinched nerve. The vet prescribed a steroid, pain, and muscle relaxant and confinement for a week or so.

Our energetic little powerhouse that was walking around like an old man and screamed if you touched her, head down, before was back to her old self 24 hours later. I almost hate to leave her confined for several more days but I'd hate it even more if she re-injured herself.

Can't wait until she's released by the doc and can go for a ride in the truck with me, which she loves. Tweety is very much like Stonepounder's Sancho was when it comes to knowing when daddy's going somewhere. She absolutely flips out in anticipation. To Stonepounder, I'm sure Sancho is still there dancing around your feet and next to you in the seat every time you even think about going somewhere.

55. I love this thread

Lost both of my beautiful babies in less than a month last year. One to Cancer and one to kidney failure. Luka had Cancer for almost three years before I had to say goodbye. Pooh Bear's kidney failure came on quickly and was unexpected. Both let me know when it was time. I still miss them both terribly. They do live on, don't they? So many wonderful memories. RIP Kelsey. Give my love to Luka and Pooh when you see them at the bridge.
