heaven is for people
dogs would not go there
dogs are unconditionally loving, trusting, always glad to see you, willing to share your joys and miseries, they will lay down their own lives without a thought for the ones they love
dogs are forgiving of your faults even when you find it hard to forgive theirs
dogs are too good for heaven they must go somewhere better

(37,648 posts)I don't have a pic on this computer, but his image is burned into my brain. My beautiful black Cocker Spaniel. He had had a hard first two years of his life, when I found him on the streets. He became my love, my boy, my companion, my soul mate. I became, I hope, his savior and protector and love provider. I will always miss him. I love you Buddy. I hope you're waiting for me.
I have two new rescue babies. I love them, too. It's different, but love all the same.

(21,478 posts)The worst are the three who were run over, including my childhood dog. Awful; the others went peacefully, and I am thankful for that. A few years ago we had three, but two are gone, as they each made it to 15 before we had to put them down. Now we have one, and she is 13.
I can't imagine a life without dogs.

(904 posts)He looks like our Jack, his name is Rowdy and the love of our lives! I know how tough it is to say good-bye to our furry kids, it's been 10 yrs. since our Roscoe left us and I miss him still. Dogs truly make our lives complete and are the best companions anyone could ask for.
They're all so precious and full of love I have to believe they are waiting for us when we get to heaven!

(11,794 posts)I remember every dog I've ever had since early childhood, even when I can't remember people or events. My first dog was a lab named Sandy. Then Dusty (mutt), Ginger (Irish Setter), Gallo (Sheltie) and Scudsy (chi-weenie), Knuckles (bulldog-boxer, and the hardest loss to bear). We now have Draper (vizsla-boxer), Tito (mess of an epileptic mutt), and Machete (sweet, tiny Chihuahua). The last 5 on the list are/were rescues.

(91 posts)(a deeply spiritual man) if dogs went to heaven and he said that he believed that animals were indeed there. I think that my dog has a much better chance of making it there than I do most days. I am sure that Kelsey is in some wonderful place and I am sure that you will see her some day.

(4,033 posts)We recently lost our beloved Sancho very suddenly. Sancho's greatest joy was to ride in the car. that dog could read body language better than any person I have ever met. If I even thought about going somewhere, he was at the door dancing around and wanting to go. After he left us, the house just seemed too empty and we made the decision to get another dog. One night I was browsing the net and found a beautiful pup available. I bookmarked the page to show my wife. I slept in the next morning and when I came out, she told me she had to show me a puppy she had found. It was the same dog! We when and let Bentley adopt us the very next day.
We've had Bentley for about 3 months now. About 3 weeks ago I needed to run to the store for a couple of items. I grabbed the keys off the hook in the kitchen and Bentley headed for the door, wanting to go with me! He has been a constant companion in the car ever since. I'm beginning to change my mind about the whole karma, afterlife, meaning of life thing. Dogs are a blessing on those with whom they choose to spend their lives.

(1,054 posts)In one major school of thought, a bodhisattva is a soul who had decided that they will NOT move on to Nirvana, even though they could, until everyone else does. The reincarnate amongst us to show us the way.
My rottweiler, Brutus, was just such a soul. More than having practiced and perfected love, compassion, charity and caring many lifetimes ago, he dedicated at least one existence to showing me how a being (regardless of species) should love and care for others. In a way I am sad that he is no longer in his 130lb body, shaking the very earth with his bark, but his time with me taught me more than a thousand hours of sermons by mere humans ever could.

(26,620 posts)The last one was a shelter mutt who was with us for 14 years. I sat with her head in my lap while the vet gave her the injection. When she looked at me for the last time, the love was overwhelming. My husband had said his good byes at home. He just couldn't make it to the end. That was 3 years ago, and we still don't have a dog, but this thread is giving me courage.

(9,463 posts)but by the time I finished reading the entire thread, it was a full-blown cry.
Our little 12yo chi Tweety was going through some difficulties this past week and I thought it was very serious. I actually thought the worst. I was scared. Took her to the vet on Friday and she was diagnosed with either an impacted disk or a pulled muscle or pinched nerve. The vet prescribed a steroid, pain, and muscle relaxant and confinement for a week or so.
Our energetic little powerhouse that was walking around like an old man and screamed if you touched her, head down, before was back to her old self 24 hours later. I almost hate to leave her confined for several more days but I'd hate it even more if she re-injured herself.
Can't wait until she's released by the doc and can go for a ride in the truck with me, which she loves. Tweety is very much like Stonepounder's Sancho was when it comes to knowing when daddy's going somewhere. She absolutely flips out in anticipation. To Stonepounder, I'm sure Sancho is still there dancing around your feet and next to you in the seat every time you even think about going somewhere.
Thank you for the post, SwampG8r.

(729 posts)Lost both of my beautiful babies in less than a month last year. One to Cancer and one to kidney failure. Luka had Cancer for almost three years before I had to say goodbye. Pooh Bear's kidney failure came on quickly and was unexpected. Both let me know when it was time. I still miss them both terribly. They do live on, don't they? So many wonderful memories. RIP Kelsey. Give my love to Luka and Pooh when you see them at the bridge.
