Madison March 14: People of Faith United For Justice Advocacy Day

(on edit: posted in full with permission)

Thursday, March 14, 2013
9:30 am - 4:00 pm
Bethel Lutheran Church
312 Wisconsin Avenue, Madison

Sponsored by Wisconsin Council of Churches, Interfaith Conference of Milwaukee, Milwaukee Jewish Federation, Lutheran Office of Public Policy, WISDOM and Madison Area Urban Ministry

People of Faith United for Justice is a day-long gathering to learn, discuss, pray and advocate together for social justice issues of importance to all the people of Wisconsin.

As a new legislature starts work on the next state budget, our representatives need to hear our values, priorities, and concerns. Together, we can ensure that our commitment to compassion and justice is reflected in that budget.

The keynoter speaker will be Rev. Bryan N. Massingale, Professor of Theology at Marquette University Milwaukee. He received his doctorate in moral theology from the Academia Alphonsianum (Rome) and specializes in social ethics and teaches courses on Catholic Social Thought, African American religious ethics, liberation theologies, and racial justice. His approach to social ethics focuses upon the impact of religious faith as both an instrument of social injustice and a catalyst for social transformation.
Co-sponsors: Interfaith Conference of Greater Milwaukee, Jewish Community Relations Council of Milwaukee, Lutheran Office for Public Policy in Wisconsin, Madison area Urban Ministry, Wisconsin Council of Churches, and WISDOM.

Event Flyer: Event Flyer in PDF. Includes a printed registration form and agenda.

Bus Transportation to Advocacy Day:

WISDOM, one of our co-sponsors for Advocacy Day, has agreed to take responsibility for organizing transportation from various parts of the state for March 14. We intend to have one or more buses coming from Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, Appleton, Green Bay, Wausau, Eau Claire and LaCrosse for the day. We would be very happy to include anyone on the bus who wants to be part of the event. We will keep the cost as low as possible, and will let everyone know what their share is. (In the past, even for the more distant places, we have been able to keep it down to $10-15 per person.) All we ask is that people let us know they are coming so we know how much space we need.
We can also arrange for some of the buses to pick people up at a designated site along the way. (For example, the Wausau bus could stop in Stevens Point.)
The people to call or e-mail for the different departure sites are:

For Eau Claire (and points north, including Superior, etc.): John Stedman (jonahorganizer@gmail.com) - 715-579-1186

For La Crosse area: Curtis Miller (curtismiller.amos@gmail.com) - 608-487-3552

Green Bay (and Manitowoc and surrounding area) : Season Westphal (joshua4justice@gmail.com) - 920-450-6590

Fox Valley (Appleton down to Fond du Lac): Stephanie Gyldenvand esther.foxvalley@gmail.com - 920-216-0891

Racine: Michael Mueller (ricorganizer@gmail.com) - 262-930-2072

Wausau (and Stevens Point, Wisconsin Rapids, and north to Rhinelander, etc.): David Liners ( davidl_wisdom@sbcglobal.net) - 414-736-2099

Kenosha: Barbara Pfarr (bpfarr_wisdom@sbcglobal.net) - 414-841-2762

Milwaukee: Kathie Walker (kathie.walker@gmail.com) - 414-412-0022 or Joe
Ellwanger (joe.ellwanger@gmail.com ) - 414-736-2480

Any questions: Contact the WISDOM office (wisdomwi@sbcglobal.net) - 414-831-2070

Note from Scuba: As a new legislature starts work on the next state budget a prayer may be the only chance we have.
