We Would Not Need All These Poverty Programs If -------

we did not have the kind of "predatory" capitalism we have and if we had the kind of economy under a Second Economic Bill Of Rights proposed by FDR in 1947 and economic justice Teddy Roosevelt proposed in 1912. So it has been 100 years now and we are going backwards faster and faster thanks to the GOP.

...for reasons embedded in our history and values."

So said David Kennedy in his review of Sunstein's "The Second Bill of Right", in the NYT, September 19, 2004.

Kennedy went on to note:

Most important are several distinctive conditions, including the absence of a working-class political party, the persistence of largely delusional expectations of social mobility and tensions along the racial and ethnic frontiers that have long seamed American society.
