People harangue him for being an Atheist every day, and he regularly asks them, "Do you believe in Zeus? Do you believe in Thor? Do you believe in Shiva? Do you believe in any of the other 295 (roughly) Gods that people on this planet pray to?" When they say No, he informs him that Atheism just means believing in one fewer God than they do. They've already rejected 294 Gods, so why do they find it so ridiculous that Atheists reject one more?

they can't understand how someone can think this is it. but i think it's more about them and their fears .

i have had people who didn't care if i believed in any specific one, but when they see that i'm not anything, not even buddhist or any other religious. i'm not even "not religious but spiritual" type they get confused and can't understand it.
