Gingrich took a dive last night didn't he?

Poll: Romney widens lead over Gingrich in Florida

Mitt Romney has opened up a 9-point lead on Newt Gingrich in a new Florida poll, released just four days before the state's GOP primary.

The former Massachusetts governor now has 38% support from likely GOP voters, compared with 29% for Gingrich, in the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute survey.

Ron Paul has 14% support and Rick Santorum has 12% in the poll taken Tuesday through Thursday.

---------------------------------

Bet he was been told there is no way he is going to get the GOP nomination and to get in line. And he did.

2. Newt Gingrich, take a dive? fall in line?

Heavens. I can not fathom the Gingrich I've followed for decades doing anything other than what the intensely egotistical Gingrich wants to do. No, I don't think he took a fall. I think he was "shaken" and when his usual strategies to bully the moderator and whip up the crowd to enable his bullying of Romney failed--and when Romney surprisingly failed to be cowed, he lost confidence. ROmney let many of Gingrich's favorite fight topics just go--like the Reagan comparison BS--thereby defanging Newt.

Bullies all tend to be insecure little cretins, despite their bluster, after all. Gingrich is no different.

probably something to do with his wife - bringing up the fact she was his mistress or something ugly like that (not that that isn't a fair point).

Last night there were times when Newt could've easily hit back when Romney attacked him, but he stood there and did very little.

He's clearly had a talking to, and like a good Republican lackey, took a dive.

Romney is the establishment candidate. The guy that the corporate monsters want
in the White House. These people are not conservative, nor are they about family
values--as they tout. They're evil, scumbag, warmongering, corporate toe suckers
who are destroying our democracy.

Newt is a conservative. The Republican base wants him. But the Republican party has been
stolen by politicians who serve only their corporate masters. Republicans will not get the
candidate they want; the one who reflects their views. They'll get the hand-picked, corporate-serving
one who has been anointed by Karl Rove and the rest of this sick cabal.

I am not a Newt fan, in the LEAST. However, we're watching the "establishment" of the party
dictate what the voters will get. They'll use the media, blackmail and threats to get what they
want. They'll even rig the vote.

It's too bad that someone doesn't out these bastards. You would think Newt's ego would be
too much to contain--and that he would chose to fight instead of kow tow to these hacks. I guess not.

7. People were reminded why they didn't like Newt. Now they'll remember why didn't like Romney

then they'll swing back to Newt. Then they will remember why they don't like Newt, it's a cycle. An intelligent person might decide that Republicans aren't really worth deciding over. But people that WANT to vote Republican because for some internal reason they feel they have no choice... they really this time have no choice

that will keep the circular firing squad going longer and the longer it goes on the better for President Obama and the Democrats, imo.

By the time they actually have a winner, they will have provided excellent fodder for the campaign teams of the Dems to use and the damaging material will come from the mouths of repubs themselves, gotta love it.

They never expected McCain was going to win the nomination.

I think the Obama campaign has all the material it needs on Romney already.

now some of that material in ads can be the words of repubs Gingrich, Santorum, etc. against him which will be very effective, imo.

I think Gingrich's words will be particularly useful given he slams Romney re Bain Capital, the off-shore accounts, etc. and, no doubt, there will be more said by Gingrich that can be added to the 'file' before the end of their primary season.

One- new debate coach for Romney.

Two- every Republican and some Democratic talking head in the country piled on Gingrich since he won south Carolina.

The Powers That Be want an open convention, they don't want any of the clowns running in November.

As someone said upthread, I think Newt would drag the whole party down with him if need be. Newton seems to think just that much of himself.
