Hagel sounds amazingly good...
I don't think being pro or anti Israel applies. We should and will defend Israel but attacking Iran without looking into ways things could be settled peacefully should always be the first choice. And if Israel thinks it should be done, they'll do it themselves, hopefully not though. Someday it'll all blow up, but till then, trying for peace is something everyone should want.
After a very close personal death, went into bible reading to figure out where heaven was, and read books dealing with Israel being the key to the end of the world, and when all countries came against it, the lord will intervene and appear. The Christians can't wait to be raptured and the longer they have to wait, the madder they get. So some of the defense of Israel is not truly defense, they want the place blown up so the lord will come. Some friends.
The first book I read in that category was Hal Lindsey's The Late Great Planet Earth," but many many have followed, and tv programs as well. I am not into that stuff anymore...
