Elizabeth Warren Demands Mortgage Settlement Documents From Regulators

Elizabeth Warren is not wasting any time trying to get answers from Wall Street’s regulators. Warren asked for documents relating to the recent mortgage settlement.

U.S. lawmakers on Thursday asked bank regulators to turn over documents related to the $8.5 billion settlement that ended a government-mandated review of crisis-era foreclosures, saying transparency was needed to boost confidence in the settlement.

Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representative Elijah Cummings, both Democrats, said the Federal Reserve and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) must address concerns that financial institutions have not been held accountable for misdeeds during the 2007-2009 U.S. financial crisis.

The mortgage settlement was essentially a give away to Wall Street that eliminated the last remaining chance homeowners had for justice.

Got bailed out when they got busted for their scam by the wealthy and then they had the NERVE to continue to go after the homeowners as if they still were owed the money.

The problem is that this IS wonderful news.
This SHOULD be SOP for our elected Democrats.
Why is it so uplifting and unusual when someone who is elected to represent us,
actually REPRESENTS us instead of the handful of RICH crooks?

Elizabeth Warren SHOULD be The Norm for elected Democrats,
NOT the exception.
Wall Street & the Too Big to Fail Banks SHOULD have been Cleaned Up, Broken Up, Strongly Regulated, the CROOKS in JAIL, and their LOOT returned to the victims long BEFORE EW ever opened her office door.
The Democrats have held the White House,a Majority in the Senate, and held a Majority in the House for a number of years before Warren was elected.
Why is it only NOW that a Democrat is finally STANDING UP and DEMANDING accountability?

Be careful, Elizabeth.
You are making the rest of the Democratic Party look like a bunch of craven weasels.
We don't want to see you Wellstoned.

You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their rhetoric, promises, or excuses.

I honestly don't get it. (Well, if it weren't for the issues of guns and choice, I wouldn't get it.) It is so obvious who's on our side and who isn't.

I love Elizabeth--this is great news!

There was even a small red-state church back in '04 or '05 that kicked out any members who wouldn't vote for Bush.

Reagan's cozying up to the religious right started something truly terrible in the country.

Even previous conservatives would agree:

Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them.
.....
The religious factions that are growing throughout our land are not using their religious clout with wisdom.... I'm frankly sick and tired of the political preachers across this country telling me as a citizen that if I want to be a moral person, I must believe in 'A,' 'B,' 'C,' and 'D.' Just who do they think they are?... I will fight them every step of the way if they try to dictate their moral convictions to all Americans in the name of "conservatism."

- Barry Goldwater, (1909–1998), five-term US Senator, Republican Party nominee for President in 1964*, Maj. Gen., US Air Force Reserves, author of The Conscience of a Conservative.

She's a great example of what Democrats should (and used to) stand for, but she's pretty much an outlier, rather than a poster girl for the current Democratic Party, which is almost entirely beholden to the interests of the 1%, just to a slightly lesser degree than the Republican Party.

But as to your love for Elizabeth Warren, I agree, and this request of hers is great news. Go Elizabeth!

She is going to have so much more clout as a Senator than she ever would have as head of an agency.

When they screwed her over on the Consumer Watchdog job they did her (and this country) such a favor. (unintentional, of course)
