Former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle Reportedly Killed at Shooting Range

"Chris Kyle, the former U.S. Navy SEAL sniper who was responsible for 160 kills during his career as U.S. Navy SEAL sniper, was shot and killed with another man at a gun range on Saturday"

If only they had guns at the gun range to defend themselves this would have never happened...wait....what?

"ABC affiliate WFAA-TV in Dallas reported that three sources said Kyle, author of the New York Times bestselling book, "American Sniper," and a neighbor of his were shot while helping a soldier who is recovering from post traumatic stress syndrome at a gun range in Glen Rose. "

Maybe they came across him at the gun range and confronted him--but when the cops caught up to him, he was driving Chris Kyle's truck, which suggests he drove to the range with Kyle. Unbelievable.

similar to people who think the way to deal with bullying is to beat up on someone to make them tougher so they wont be bullied.

these guys might have thought ptsd was a sign of weakness and they needed to make him tough by shooting some guns off.

the exact type of culture which prevented many from getting help for ptsd . although that is changing for the better there are still certain types out.

But, what does this tell us about guns?

Guns are instruments of death. That is what they are.

Even a gun range where guns are used for "sport" can be a terribly dangerous place.

And I repeat, the only people who can stop the slaughter are gun enthusiasts. We can pass law after law, but people who like to shoot have to choose to put their guns down.

If they don't, they need to remember that the Constitution can be amended. All it takes is enough voters ready to demand a change. It would be a shame if the gun lovers let it come to that.

Though I do commend Chris Kyle for working with those in the military with PTSD. Still, he should have known better. Not a good idea. My cousin came back from Afghanistan and killed himself over the summer. His girlfriend had died from an illness and that was apparently the last straw. He had PTSD. He lived with his father who had guns that were not locked away. Just another tragedy with guns.

WFAA/Channel 8 quoted unnamed sources as saying that Kyle of Midlothian and a neighbor had taken Routh on an outing to help him deal with post-traumatic stress disorder. Routh turned on the men and shot them in the back, the report added.

In the book, Kyle describes how Iraqi insurgents nicknamed him "the devil" and placed a bounty on his head.

look up Eddie Ray Routh on google. i sure wouldn't hand him a gun...

Post-military life

Kyle left the US Navy in 2009,[2][7] and moved to Mid-Texas with his wife, Taya, and two children. He ran Craft International, which provides military, law enforcement, and civilian training, as well as private security and protection until his death.[2][8] In 2012, Harper Collins released Kyle's autobiographical book American Sniper.[7][9] Kyle also paired with FITCO Cares Foundation, a non-profit organization which created the Heroes Project to provide free in-home fitness equipment, individualized programs, personal training, and life-coaching to in-need veterans with disabilities, Gold Star families, or those suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.[10]
Appearance on Stars Earn Stripes

On August 13, 2012, Kyle appeared on the reality television show Stars Earn Stripes. The show features celebrities pairing up with a special operations or law enforcement professional who will train them in weapons and combat tactics. Kyle was teamed up with actor Dean Cain.[11]
Alleged confrontation with Jesse Ventura

While promoting his book on the Opie and Anthony Radio Show on January 4, 2012, Kyle claimed to have knocked down former Governor of Minnesota and Underwater Demolition Team member Jesse Ventura with a punch to the face at a popular Navy SEAL bar in Coronado, California in 2006 after Ventura had “badmouthed the troops” and said that the SEALs "deserved to lose a few guys." The alleged incident occurred during a wake for Michael A. Monsoor, a Navy SEAL who was killed in action in Iraq the same year.[12] Ventura released a statement on his Facebook page calling Kyle’s claims completely false, denying he said anything derogatory about the troops, and also denying Kyle’s claim of punching him in the face or even having met Chris Kyle.[13] Kyle said that two Navy SEALs had come forward with the story but no police report has ever existed.[14] At the time of Kyle's death, Ventura was suing Kyle for defamation in court, and the lawsuit was still pending.[15]

Dr. Mechoulam is the Israeli scientist who identified THC as the psychoactive compound in marijuana, and decades later he discovered the brain's endocannabinoid system and the endogenous neurotransmitter anandamide. He is one of the most respected Israeli neuroscientists and has been a senior advisor to the Israeli government on marijuana policy and the ethics of research with human subjects. He discussed his experiments demonstrating the neuroprotective effects of the endocannabinoid system in mice that have had traumatic injuries to the brain. He believes the neuroprotective effects of marijuana may eventually have applications for other neurological and psychiatric conditions, including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.

Another fascinating discovery, one with implications for PTSD, is that the cannabinoid system is integrally related to memory, specifically to memory extinction. Memory extinction is the normal, healthy process of removing associations from stimuli. Dr. Mechoulam explained that an animal which has been administered an electric shock after a certain noise will eventually forget about the shock after the noise appears alone for a few days. Mice without cannabinoid systems simply never forget - they continue to cringe at the noise indefinitely.
