(12,799 posts)From 2001-2006 I served in the US Marine Corps. Now I attend an Ivy League university that I could never afford without the Post 9/11 GI Bill. Im grateful to the taxpayers because I know there are vets in other countries who arent afforded the same privilege.
When I say that I served my country, I mean that I put the interests of others before my own out of a sense of duty and responsibility to my fellow citizens. I didnt risk my life for American banks to swindle their customers with faulty securities, or for billionaires to weasel out of taxes that they would never notice if they didnt read about them in the paper, or for corporate lobbyisits to shut regular Americans out of our political system.
I wasnt raised in Hobbes state of nature. Nobody put a gun to my parents or my teachers or my coaches head and forced them to show me how to succeed in life. They did it because they gave a damn. Now its my turn to give back to our society by working HARD to help other people. Because I care about what happens to them.

(34,845 posts)Yes, I read it.
A Marine who supports the 99%. Haven't we seen this before? Is it addressed to anyone? Or do we expect Congress to watch DU for messages?
Cowboy8541
(64 posts)But I think it's important to get the message out that people have had enough. It doesn't have to be addressed to anyone. it's addressed to everyone. What's your problem?

(34,845 posts)DU? There is no context to this 'celebration' that a Marine held up a nicely worded piece of paper to somebody's camera.

(34,845 posts)And that the OP was apparently attempting to pass it off as a recent discovery as evidenced by the erudite subject line "FUCK AND YES. FUCK AND YES. FUCK AND YES."
In capital letters.
I suppose the subject line could imply something else but I'm sure that's an area we don't want to go.
My point is that few people questioned the origin of the photo. Those who asked for a link were ignored.
Objectivity is an ally.

Despite Bush's Vow to Veto, GI Bill Passes in a Landslide
http://www.alternet.org/world/86306/
<...>
The Senate today took up and passed legislation to fund the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and twin that money with billions in domestic priorities and a new G.I. Bill that promises returning veterans sufficient tuition assistance to attend the most expensive state universities in the nation. McCain skipped the vote in favor of campaigning in California, including attending a fundraiser sponsored by San Diego Chargers owner Alex Spanos. But his White House rivals, Sens. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) and Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) were very much present.
"I respect Senator John McCain's service to our country," Obama said on the Senate floor. "But I can't understand why he would line up behind the president in opposition to this G.I. Bill. I can't believe why he believes it is too generous to our veterans."
McCain's comeback was withering, a lengthy statement questioning Obama's knowledge of veterans issues and his commitment to national security.
"I take a backseat to no one in my affection, respect and devotion to veterans. And I will not accept from Senator Obama, who did not feel it was his responsibility to serve our country in uniform, any lectures on my regard for those who did," he said in the statement.
