Nor'easter slams South Shore

A monster blizzard began its assault on the South Shore and eastern Massachusetts on Friday.

The governor ordered motorists off the roads by 4 p.m. There were no flights in or out of Logan International Airport, and the MBTA ordered subways, buses, commuter trains and ferries to stop running at 3:30 p.m.

As of 8 p.m., National Grid was reporting 13,062 customers without power and NStar reported 26,267. Snowfall totals were in the 4-7 inch range across most of the area.

The Blue Hill Observatory in Milton recorded a wind gust of 64 mph.
