How Is President Obama Doing On Job Creation?

?

President Obama inherited the greatest economic black-hole since Herbert Hoover gifted the Great Depression to President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1932. And in spite of a historically obstructionist Republican Congress his bubble up economic policies have produced one of the greatest turn-arounds in history.

I heard on one of the talk shows this morning that the private sector is growing at nearly 5% and that it is the public sector that is keeping the numbers down (can't confirm yet).

States and localities have eliminated 671,000 jobs since employment peaked in August 2008" "Public" sector job creation remains the biggest drag on the overall employment issue.

The two graphs above show that one of the biggest drags on the current level of Job Creation/employment has been the loss of hundreds of thousands of public sector jobs. Below is an intersting article that points out inspite of continued population growth, the Federal government has shrunk dramatically over the last 25 years.

Big Government? Obama Has 273,000 Fewer Federal Employees Than Reagan
By Ray Medeiros

Every single Republican today talks about being a Reagan conservative. This is a conservative that believes in small government, reducing federal spending and ultimately runs a lean and mean government. They talk about this stuff in campaigns, but in practice they failed miserably.

In fact HISTORICALLY, it is has been Democratic presidents who have reduced the size of the federal government. The Republicans have lied to the people so much that I believe the current crop somehow BELIEVES the history as they have been told, rather than researching the facts for themselves. This may be a stretch, but I am trying to give them the benefit of the doubt.

According to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, which tracks the number of employees per year, the data shows that the “conservatives” for small government are really just big government conservatives. I know that is an oxymoron, but numbers don’t lie.

4. That still doesn't stop the "1.7 million jobs lost" lie the conservatives keep spreading.

Never mind that it's a complete lie because that overall number is due to them equating "every second from January 21st, 2009 on" with "On Obama's Watch", an statement only chronologically true. The first 7 months' numbers were a result of the economic policies (and lack of economic policing) of the Bewsh II Administration, not Obama's.

But I credit Democrats in Congress at least as much as Obama.

Something voters might keep in mind during Congressional elections.

are absolutely critical to the continued forward progress we have been making. We should never lose sight of the fact that one of the most productive House of Representatives in history, that of Speaker Nancy Pelosi was replaced with the least productive in history under the Republican leadership of current Speaker John Boehner.

11. MSNBC: Jobless Rate Drops to Lowest Level in Almost Three Years
Sat Feb 4, 2012, 02:15 PM
Feb 2012

-snip-
The U.S. economy created jobs at the fastest pace in nine months in January and the unemployment rate dropped to a near three-year low, offering a hopeful sign for hiring in the year ahead.

Employers added a net 243,000 jobs last month, the Labor Department reported Friday -- that's the most since April and far better than economists' expectations for a gain of only 150,000.

“It’s a strong number, a very strong number, I would say,” said Vassili Serebriakov, a currency strategist at Wells Fargo Bank. “It’s consistent with the broad improvement in the U.S. economic data, but I think the extent of strength in today's report is somewhat of a surprise, and this is a good sign for the U.S. employment market and the U.S. economy.”

The nation’s unemployment rate fell to 8.3 percent in January from 8.5 percent in the prior month. The rate has dropped 0.8 percentage point since August and is now at its lowest level in nearly three years.
