Does the GOP really want an end to human decency in America?

Here’s their agenda:

Screw jobs. Everyone for themselves.

Screw healthcare. Everyone for themselves.

Screw education. Everyone for themselves.

Screw children and seniors in need. Everyone for themselves.

Screw veterans. Screw minorities. Screw immigrants. Screw non-“Christians.” Screw liberals. Screw the impoverished. And screw what’s left of the middle class.

I’ve left much out, but you get the idea.

The GOP and far too many Democratic politicians are beholden only to those who fund their campaigns. That’s all they care about – their owners and themselves.

And yes, OWS and many groups and organizations are doing whatever is possible to bring about change.

But here's the real issue: How the hell did we end up in this sewer? Were so many of us so wrong in our beliefs regarding human decency? Beats me. What do you think?

the prosperity church. You know there is nothing wrong being wealthy. I totally agree with that. However, when your stepping on your employees and treating them wrongly I have a problem with that. We lower middle class want you to be wealthy if you are doing the right thing and not stealing from your employees. If our religious leaders aren't doing the right thing by not pointing out what is wrong and not marching in the streets with the working poor how do they expect to get people back into church. We see the church doesn't care for the poor. If the did they would be in the street pounding the pavement yelling where are the low income housing. Where is the healthcare for the poor. Where are the jobs. That is what we are all waiting for. We know the republican party doesn't care. Now so far we see the religious right siding with the republicans and they don't care.

6. Just thinking aloud but there is the idea of salvation "by grace not deeds"

in fundamentalist christianity.

The idea is that you are chosen by God's "grace", there is nothing you can do to earn it, in fact you can be the nicest, kindest person in the world but if you're not "chosen" you're still going to you-know-where.

Plus once you're chosen you can do almost anything because your sins are paid for (but if you're caught doing something bad you just need to repent and you're forgiven).

This seems to be the idea behind "the Family", the small group of powerful "chosen" people but also Republicans/teapers/freepers in general.

This shows in the Foxmedia meme that it is what you are deep down that matters, not what you do. So, for example, they think that deep down Obama is a socialist muslim even if his words and deeds prove the opposite. In contrast, deep down Newt and Sarah Palin are true christians (even if their words and deeds show the opposite).

but I've absorbed a lot of general information about the group from reading DU over the the years.

It's a fascinating mindset, that's for sure. I'm hoping that Politics and Reason(ableness) will be the new mix.

gradual change. Started in the late 70s by the "me" theology of some rw churches and preached on tv to under-educated listeners it overrode the mainstream churches who did not fight back. Then they elected an actor who was just about as uneducated as they were and from there "me" politics has been one straight road to what we have today pure hate and greed two ideas that were considered sins when I was young.

It does not help that even the educated and banksters were playing this game when they bought into Milton Freidman and his Chicago Boys disaster capital ideals. And of course the so called liberal msm did not hesitate to call everything that was anywhere near to real liberalism into question.

I do not think we were wrong and I will not give up that idea no matter what shit they throw at us.

7. Good answer, jwirr. But why did the rest of us accept it?

Why did the mainstream media, the mainstream churches, and the vast majority of "normal" people just roll over and play dead?

Obviously, a dedicated minority with an agenda can halt progress and rationality. Perhaps, if we ever get back on track, future generations will learn from our inattention.

time fighting the racism that existed back then. I think we got tired. Some of the non-violent attitude had begun to fade and there was more violence - the Patty Herst story comes to mind - and there was a lot of stress. I remember talking to a friend who said, "I am exhausted - I feel like I have been fighting my entire life." Plus they started their takeover with preaching - most of us saw no threat in that - but we forgot to listen to what they were preaching.

What we are seeing of the GOP is just the very beginning. If the electorate really understood these assholes they would not only lose every election. They would be tarred and feathered literally. They are a murderous lot.
