Thus the law was unconstitutional and had to be pulled.

Americans need to keep passing laws and make these tax-paid hypocrites pee in a bottle just like they insist "cadillac-driving welfare bums" have to.

Seems awfully bizarre and in fact strikes me as a violation of that whole "equal protection under the law" thing

This really surprises me considering our military members are subject to such random test. If I recall though, the federal civilians are under a system more like what this ruling would allow (with reasonable suspicion).

The sited case concerns candidates, not serving legislators / executives. It would be an interesting show, watching legislators pleading their case for not being tested when they have no problem authorizing tests for workers, welfare recipients, and the unemployed.

Let me see if I parsed this correctly...

Politicians pulled the law because the Supreme Court ruled the drug testing of politicians was unconstitutional, based on laws passed by previous politicians...

perhaps tscotus wanted to ensure that the people get the elected official they voted for. Perhaps if a stoner got into office, he couldn't be ousted by a drug test.

Since you have to be on crack to be a Republican, piss testing politicians would leave the right side of the aisle empty.
