There should have been no booing. Period.
There was plenty of cheering, too.

Michael Moore was right then - and right now - and it was a shame how so many bowed to the US president - instead of the truth..
And many of us, who protested - and who on debate forums was fighting the lies, the utterly lies from the "reality" groups - was also right - The evidences before the Iraq War was overwhelming - and the totally lack of evidences for the chemical, biological and other weapons should have turned the US against the horrible regime of mr Bush...
I still hope america will wake up - and do the right think - but I do suspect, most of them who was doing the crimes, will never be prosecuted for the crimes they had being doing...
But I KNOW mr Moore was right then - and he WAS honest, when he was fighting the lies - And for some reason I think mr Moore at least, in his quiet room, can say YEAH i was right - the others was wrong...

Don't hold your breath about it - I don't. The "believers" will go down to their graves, believing mr Bush did the world a great service - going into Iraq, devastated it, and waste billions, on billions of dollars, who else could have been used to far better use other places - like in the US..

They bought up the media to prevent that from happening again.

(53,661 posts)I'm not even saying it was a conspiracy as is preached through some Koch funded punditry. Because they preach it's the government that is always the main actor, when it comes from the ground up. Instead what you describe was the natural reaction of those groups.
The Thom Hartmann video I've cited here a few times, traces their actions. I've been quoting FDR's vice-president's words, for years now. It fits the fascist model perfectly:
"The really dangerous American fascist... is the man who wants to do in the United States in an American way what Hitler did in Germany in a Prussian way. The American fascist would prefer not to use violence.
His method is to poison the channels of public information. With a fascist the problem is never how best to present the truth to the public but how best to use the news to deceive the public into giving the fascist and his group more money or more power...
They claim to be super-patriots, but they would destroy every liberty guaranteed by the Constitution. They demand free enterprise, but are the spokesmen for monopoly and vested interest.
Their final objective, toward which all their deceit is directed, is to capture political power so that, using the power of the state and the power of the market simultaneously, they may keep the common man in eternal subjection."
-- U.S. Vice President Henry A. Wallace, quoted in the New York Times, April 9, 1944
We nearly fell over the cliff last November they had pushed us toward for half a century. It is not wise to believe that with one set of electoral victories every four years, we have won for any length of time or forever. It's always a truce or a draw. They are NOT giving up after all these years. They've invested a lot in the system they believe we should all live in. If they can destroy civil government, they will extort us by using terms they set for their benefit, to pay directly for all we need to live. Without any redress because you can't regulate private interests without a strong, well-funded government, and the public has been convinced that is tyranny.
Privatization achieves all this piecemeal. If they win this fight, the Constitution, Bill of Rights, voting and all protection against theocrats and predators will truly be gone, simply of no meaning. Not just under siege as they are now, because the one who controls our land, air, water and food OWNS us.
Many of the heads-on-fire talking points are nothing but diversions to keep the eye of the people off Grand Theft USA. They studiously ignore that there is great profit to be made if one gets those contracts. Yet those are neighbors who believe it's the right thing to do. We create government in this country in ways that are both conscious and deliberate and also in ways that are unclear to most people. It's up to us to move forward to cleanse and empower whatever will hold these robber barons off.

(32,723 posts)We are told who the bad guys are it is considered to be "daring" to talk about Israel but you want to see someone show actual courage?
Have them talk about Saudi Arabia.
They own a big chunk of FOX "News" and Wall Street and their #1 rival in the region is Iran. We are supposed to just consider it a coincidence that Republicans who suck up to the Saudis are eager to go to war with Iran.
Want to see the future under Republicans? Look at Saudi Arabia. Morality Police, leaders who claim they are actual Holy Men speaking for God while they cavort in harems, women are property, torture, public execution, your life is determined by your place in society and that's based on your birth.

(32,723 posts)At that time it was considered to be DANGEROUS to speak out against Bush.
I noticed it when I would say something in public. People at my table would look around in actual FEAR like we were in a fucking dictatorship. Like the cops would swoop in and arrest me or something.

(36,509 posts)I know lots of people who were solidly behind the Iraq war & the Bush administration, until F-911 came out.
Before the film was out, I drove around with anti-Bush & anti-war stickers on my car, & my husband asked me to take them off because the reaction was so startling. People would flip me off, they would approach me in parking lots & call me anti-American, some stickers were defaced. Sometimes it was a little frightening how vehement they were.
After the movie, that started to change. Oh, sure there were still a number of jerks, but I started to hear people honking & giving me a thumbsup. I remember a friend telling me, "I didn't know all that about how Bush got elected until I saw F-911."
I hope Michael keeps speaking out.

(37,573 posts)If you want to "stop the war" then you should concentrate on "the war" and not "the President that I did not vote for". However we may feel about "dim son" the fact of the matter is that tens of millions of Americans voted for that "fictitious President" twice. If you start by attacking HUM, then you are also attacking THEM. If you, instead, attack his policy, his war, or his lies, then it allows them to think "well, I voted for the guy, but I don;'t like war, or being lied to".
I used to quote Flash Gordon here, where he said "Prince Barron, I am not your enemy. Ming is. Let's all team up and fight him."
It's harder to convince people you are not their enemy though, when you attack them. Then, instead of teaming up with you to fight Bush, they instead will team up to fight YOU.

(2,284 posts)Several of us protested the war every Friday in front of the County Courthouse. Many times we were threatened. Once I was specifically pointed out and told they were going to come and burn down my house. But hard as it was at first we were able to see a gradual change in response to our protesting. There came a time when there were more thumbs up than thumbs down and the threats lessened

(4,769 posts)to us. The cops allowed the pro-war people and their signs to get close to the Oscars - we were shuffled a few blocks away from the cameras.
I do remember John Conyers was one of the speakers at the protest. He ripped up his Oscar tickets and said he would rather be with us protesting the war.
As for Michael Moore, I'll always remember how happy I and my friends were when we heard what he had done. He is a true hero.
