Dallas ISD to close 11 schools, layoff 177, extend teacher hours .

http://www.wfaa.com/news/local/Dallas-ISD-to-close-11-schools-layoff-177-extend-teacher-hours-138179774.html

DALLAS - After a raucous meeting lasting more than four hours with police intervention, Dallas ISD trustees voted to close 11 elementary schools, which will result in 177 layoffs of full-time employees.

In a separate vote, the board voted to extend teachers' work days by 45 minutes, without compensating them for it.

Even though it was in the chilly outside as protesters marched against both issues, Dallas ISD switched on its air conditioner in its large board room before people gathered.

"Wake up people; are you asleep? Are you sick? Or what?" Joyce Foreman, one of the first public speakers opposing school closures, asked board members.

He also belongs to the AFL/CIO9American Federation of Teachers). THIS is the reality of a 'Right-to-work" state. The elected officials could care less about the kids or teachers.
NOTE: ALL DISD cuts are in low-income areas...not Highland Park or Westlake.

I moved down here a few years ago and although we love being in Dallas we are now thinking about moving to get away from Dallas ISD. Grapevine seems to be the spot we are looking at, but that is up to my wife.

That being said I have never understood how they let Highland Park carve it's own section out of DISD. That is part of the problem and just floors me.

Schools are good in this area. Not sure what the problem is with Dallas, layoffs aren't going on here as far as I know.

the Presidents of SMU (Southern Millionaires University)
or
TCU (Texas Cash University) bring home a year?
How much do you think the football coaches make? the equivalent of how many teachers salaries?

A pathetic state of affairs I'd say.
