The local impact of sequestration
(ohio) Whitehall, workers at DSCC to suffer under sequestration
....
The secretary of defense has labeled them doomsday cuts, and Whitehall Mayor Kim Maggard agrees.
She said the furloughs will amount to a minimum $1.5 million loss in income tax for the city. Add in the impact to local businesses supported by the base, and Maggard estimates it will be closer to $2 million about a 10 percent cut to the citys general revenue fund.
As a result, the mayor put on hold plans to create a new recreation center for the city. The city also put the kibosh on conferences and training and wont purchase new vehicles. And it will have to cut some capital projects, such as work on curbs and gutters.
....
It could be even more significant for Thomas Spyker, 25, a police officer at DSCC.
He is worried about paying bills, but hes more worried that late payments will ruin his credit rating. If that happens, he said, he might lose his security clearance. If he loses that, he might lose his job.
