http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/03/05/florida-woman-brandishes-gun-at-walmart-staff-over-rejected-1-coupon/
The Wakulla County Sheriffs Department said in a release that the Crawfordsville, Florida resident became verbally abusive toward the stores assistant manager, Tracy Stockslager, when Stockslager said the stores policy prevented them from honoring the coupon.
Alday allegedly hit Stockslager with her shopping cart while being escorted out of the store and warned the staff not to follow her. When Stockslager said she intended to get Aldays license plate number, Alday allegedly said, If you follow me, I have something in my car for you.
After going outside, Alday allegedly pulled the weapon out of her car and pointed it at the staff before leaving the scene in a 2011 Ford Escape. When authorities pulled her over later that evening, the department said, her pattern of belligerence continued.
When asked if she had a weapon in the vehicle, she allegedly told Sgt. Danny Harrell, Yes, I have a concealed weapons permit, and you are not taking my gun. She also refused to give up the weapon when asked where it was.

(2,282 posts)This whole "law-abiding until they aren't" argument is asinine and sophomoric. One could say that about everyone who commits a crime. It is a mindless slogan with no meaning.

(11,996 posts)right up until the point she used her gun to break the law.
Why is that hard to grasp? The implications are obvious. Relevant because/since we are constantly reminded how safe and lawful legally-carrying CCW people are (and other 'law abiding' gun owners who would willingly break the law for various reasons). Luckily she only brandished her piece and threatened violence and didn't actually shoot anyone.
Of course if you want to say that about all criminals - then have at it...it makes sense for 1st time offenders. It is just that those with guns are usually a bit more dangerous.

(6,057 posts)Au contraire, mon frère....... it does have meaning.
This gatt brandishing nut job had a concealed weapons permit. So..... it means the vetting process for concealed carry is inadequate or faulty in FL. (Or is that part of FL considered "southern Georgia"?)
guardian
(2,282 posts)Now on the other hand your reply "the vetting process for concealed carry is inadequate or faulty in FL" is specific and actionable. That makes sense. People could argue the merits or inefficiencies of the current FL vetting process and propose a change that has a tangible benefit.
But the people bleeting out mindless, abstract, slogans that could apply to anything and everyone serve no purpose.

(6,057 posts)Hmmmmm!
Mindless, abstract, slogans?
Bad guy with guns....... good guys with guns.........
Laws only effect the "law abiding"........
Sheet! I've heard 'em all!

(25,771 posts)but that is the heart of their argument - mindless slogans with no meaning
guns don't kill people ...
The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun . . .

(33,345 posts)"law abiding" this, "law abiding" that. as if it makes such citizens above reproach. or regulation.
mrs. law-abiding walmart gun-brandisher had a CCW. she clearly didn't deserve that responsibility. without the gun she'd have been just another angry senior making nasty comments and demanding to see the manager.
you can't commit a crime with a gun IF YOU DON'T HAVE A GUN.
guardian
(2,282 posts)If she did have a CCW as she claimed then she didn't deserve that responsiblity. However, she committed several crimes from what I can tell. She was arrested. She will likely go to jail. She will assuredly lose her CCW permit and never get it back. So that part of the system worked in this instance.
What you will never have is the perfect Vanilla Sky Pre-Crime unit to foresee the future of every person. This is true of gun ownership, knife ownership, car ownership, club ownership, etc. So all the anitgunner rhetoric of saying that because any instances of crime with a firearm is an excuse to take away firearms from all the rest of the 99.99999998% of the citizens is stupid in the extreme.
