General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI just stumbled upon another Right Wing mania: Progressive Insurance Company!
I confess this topic was new to me, never heard of it before. Progressive is the auto insurance giant with cute commercials featuring the dark-haired customer service gal "Flo".
I belong to several Facebook groups based on common non-political interests. In one such group, an entrepreneurial Friend asked us about auto insurance, as she was considering changing to Progressive. I was amazed at a flood of responses (from her personal entrepreneur friends, not the names in our group) warning her that Progressive was owned and controlled by liberal George Soros. He used the money from it to buy the WH for BHO. Other comments emphasized that he was the lefty Communist NWO type who spends all his billions trying to keep other folks poor....on and on. They ALL strongly urged boycotting Progressive.
Amazed, I snoped and Googled. Common search terms for Progressive + Soros included Evil, tyrant, Communist and atheist. Sure enough, the Progressive thing has been kicking around for ages and inspires a LOT of intensity. Factually, Progressive is owned by Peter Lewis - not Soros. But they are both big liberal donors. In wing-land, that means they are the same person, likely from the realm of the undead and assembling a zombie army.
There is SO MUCH MORE out there than I believed.

(13,905 posts)I've been happy with the rates and basic service, though I've never had to file a claim.

(6,496 posts)They had like a 25% stake and divested themselves of it like 8-10 years ago... But the spew still comes back every so often...

(24,721 posts)One of their clients gave my car a fender bender when she backed out of a parking space directly behind me, & everyone I dealt with at Progressive was very professional & on the ball. I was taken aback at how hospitable every associate I dealt with was -- it's hard to find any company these days that treat customers so specially.
I'm not surprised that it's owned by a liberal; it explains why their employees & services are so pleasant.

(13,184 posts)Probably more than a million bucks over the years. I buy my auto insurance from him. Plus, I like Flo.

(5,815 posts)Usually I'm pretty immune to advertising campaigns. But, damn, she got me. Stupid adorableness.
Ok, I did compare quotes, too. But, yes, Flo was the true destination all along.

(23,664 posts)I've had a policy with Progressive for over 10 years and made one claim. The response was prompt, the adjustment was painless and the settlement fair.
That said, I hit the mute button the second Flo appears on my screen.

(14,177 posts)And I like her side kick too he is really funny. Especially the commercial with Rocket Kitty. I wish they would bring Rocket Kitty back, just too funny. I hope to see Flo break out of commercials into a full time acting gig, she is adorable.

(3,867 posts)Progressive, USAA and State Farm are the best. Geico is ok. The worst to deal with in my experience and through what my customers told me was Allstate. They were the slowest to pay claims and set up billing for a rental car.
But if I weren't with USAA, I like Flo enough and with the knowledge that it is liberal owned, I would go with Progressive.

(2,515 posts)They are so impersonal and yes I had bad experiences with them.
I choose car insurance now like I choose restaurants - local, independent and not tied to larger ones in any way.
I may pay more from time to time but the piece of mind is liberating.
