Crowds erupted in joy in St. Peters Square and waited anxiously for the presentation of the still unknown new pope, who was expected to greet the world on the balcony of the St. Peters Basilica for the first time before 8 p.m. Rome time (3 p.m. Eastern time).

Maybe I miss the excitement of the election!
I'm hoping for Sean O'Malley -- he's a simple Franciscan Monk and he spoke out strongly about the sexual abuse and cover up.
A reformer!

Maybe since they knew that Ratzinger was going to resign well in advance.. they'd done more groundwork to reach consensus ahead of time. Good to keep up a little suspense though.

waiving a huge crucifix around. Seems to me that would be like waving a Mannlicher Carcano around the Kennedy compound.
