Controversial Portrait Of Jesus Moved From Middle To High School

Controversial Portrait Of Jesus Moved From Middle To High School

JACKSON, Ohio - A controversial picture of Jesus has been moved from one school to another in Jackson, Ohio.

School officials confirmed to 10TV that the picture was moved from Jackson Middle School to Jackson High School.

Superintendent Phil Howard said that since the picture belongs to the "Hi-Y Club," they can move it where they want.

The members of Hi-Y Club, a Christian-based organization, all attend high school.

...

The suit argued that the portrait "imposes the beliefs of one particular religion" upon the children, making the plaintiffs "feel like outsiders who are being coerced by their government into observing the religious portrait."

Why the hell were they even allowed to ever put up a picture of a religious icon? It's a school not a church. If they want to have religious pictures, they should attend a school funded by religion...not the state. If you allow one, you have to allow all, including any pictures from any religion. Whoever allowed it in the first place should be fired. You can't fix stupid.

Personally, I don't care if they have a picture of My Little Ponies. It wouldn't make me feel the need to be a bronie.

I don't fear pics and am not they type to be intimidated by them but can understand how, to some people, it is problematic.

If you don't believe in god then the pic is of a historical figure, much like one of mohammed would be if I saw it.

Having been in the chess club if had wanted to put up a pic of Bobby Fischer if could have been seen as controversial as well (given his stands on some issues). One could find something wrong with anything (see the old META place here...)

Overall, don't care much, but it is an interesting news item and local to where I live.

Jeese, no wonder they don't want it. People across America have been dumping that picture at garage sales for years. No one wants it anymore. So it would seem that some hate to actually throw it into the trash, and try to find a place to hang it where no one will complain instead.

It looks like finding a place where no one will complain is a problem. But don't give up. In another 50 years it will raise in value again and everyone will want the old white Jesus again.

Until then, I might suggest they hang the ugly thing back wards, facing the wall. Or maybe put another pic over top of that one. Or donate it to the art department who can let a student paint over it.
