He is very upset by Portman's coming out (so to speak) for gay marriage. So upset that he is being more comical than usual in his anti-gay-marriage arguments.

He is analyzing Portman's comments line by line and he got to the part where Portman said that his son's being gay was not a choice. He came up with the brilliant pilot analogy. Just like if you have 20-20 vision, that's ok but you can't be a pilot, similarly if you are gay you can't get married.

I guess gay people will crash their marriages killing hundreds of people.
