She said, "Thank you", and I said, "You're welcome, Janeane". She seem surprised that I recognized her.
--On edit--
I also held the door open for Mila Kunis at a Starbucks. She said thank you as well, but I didn't let her get ahead of me in line though.

(46,416 posts)for everybody, even if they're kind of far away from the door and it's awkward because they feel they have to hurry up and go through because I timed it wrong, in my fear of being impolite. Of course, some people treat me like a doorman/servant and walk through like royalty, without even acknowledging me.

(6,418 posts)He was also surprised that I recognized him. I said - "You're wearing a Superbowl Ring the size of a grapefruit - how could I not!".
Also - while we're on the topic, I hold the door open for just about everyone, male or female, who is within 3-4 steps behind me at a door. Not sure why but it just seems personable. Most everyone says "thanks" and we all move on with our day. Hope that's still allowed in the "who opens doors for whom" world.

(51,122 posts)They played at a small record store I worked at part time. This was when 'Walking On Sunshine' was on the charts.
She smiled at me, I nodded.
Then Janeane Garofalo kneecapped me for holding the door open for a woman.
That last part may not be true.

(15,953 posts)At O'Hare Airport back in 1972. I was returning from my first leave after Navy boot camp. I'm going through the Airport in my dress blues and Peacoat. I had my seabag on my right shoulder so I couldn't see anything to the right of me. Someone opened the door and held it for me so I walked through and and set my seabag down to look for the bus. and right away I hear "Hey Gordie" and I turned around to see Gordie Howe the greatest Red Wing and perhaps the greatest Hockey player of all time holding the door.

I'm still holding it open because I can't tell if he's gone through it or not.
