No Knives on Planes

As many of you may have heard, the TSA has decided to start allowing knives back on planes. This is a huge workplace safety issue for AFA-CWA's flight attendants, and should be a concern for all airline passengers. The new rule will go into effect on April 25, so we don't have much time to stop it.

The flight attendants' coalition has been focusing on a White House petition as an important part of their strategy for fighting this decision. Please considering helping out by promoting the petition to your members and your readers. If any of you want to talk to some flight attendants about the issue, just let me know and I can connect you.

Shortcut to the petition: http://wh.gov/GmOg

Suggested Tweet: Knives can be used as weapons. Weapons don't belong on planes. Stand with @AFA_CWA.Tell @TSA: #NoKnivesOnPlanes. http://wh.gov/GmOg

Good materials for sharing on the AFA-CWA Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/afacwa

Thanks!

1. I don't see the big deal. I have carried a knife for years and rarely cut myself. This TSA BS

is IMO just a device to have us volunteer to be subjects of the Police State.

2. They still don't allow large knives. This is about small pocket knives.

Also small sewing scissors.

Sorry I disagree and won't sign this petition.

Removing them from the list is one of the few rational things TSA has ever done

the blade of a standard Swiss Army knife as the model of knife to be allowed (that size blade and smaller). I understand the fears of the flight attendants, but I don't believe it will have much of an impact on their safety.

rubbing their hands gleefully because small knives can now be brought on planes. Hijackers do not need small knives to kill people. They can just use their bare hands, or there are any number of things that can be brought onto a plane that can be fashioned into a weapon.

6. The difference between now and pre-911 is the cockpit doors.

Now someone trying to take over the plane can only threaten to kill people. They have no access to the cockpit. Flight attendants have a safer workplace than any office building. Granted, my office building can't fall out of the sky, but anyone could walk in with whatever weapons they decided to bring along with them.

Hijackicking a plane with a knife involves the cooperation, if unwillingly given, of the passengers. Something that will not happen again after 9/11.

7. If I jabbed a sharpened #2 pencil into their jugular, I can kill them just as dead as with a knife.

The silliness that is the TSA needs to be dismantled, and replaced with actual security, not security theater.

THIS is what TSA is going to allow on planes again.

People need to stop wetting themselves over every little thing in life.
