Only massless particles can travel at light speed. We've kinda known that since 1905, Einstein's annus horribilus, when (as a mere patent clerk) he published four papers any one of which were Nobel Prize worthy. He won the prize in 1921 for the paper on the photoelectric effect, not for the two relativity papers, and not for the Brownian motion paper, the latter which kind of put the nail in the coffin of those who opposed atomic theory.

Relativity says very simply that to travel at light speed you have to have zero rest mass; and if you have zero rest mass you always travel at light speed.

In 1998, the Super-Kamiokande experiment showed that neutrinos have mass. Therefore, neutrinos cannot travel at the speed of light.
