I keep trying to point this sort of thing out and get slammed by office workers who tell me how strenuous their jobs are.

I was a nurse. My body was wrecked by my job. So save it.

And don't touch the retirement age, ya bastards.

and were physically capable of doing the job, after a certain age, no one will hire them except as Walmart greeters. There are people out there hanging on without full-time work or healthcare, just waiting to be able to retire.

It used to be 55. Now it's edging below 50 as actuarial tables tell them that workers at their peak are also at their peak earnings and starting to develop chronic illness and it's cheaper to hire a green kid out of college and train him over several years to do the same job. Of course, if someone in upper management happens to die as you hit that dreadful birthday, you might be lucky enough to be considered for upper management. Most people will not be and will have over a decade to try to survive on minimum wage, dead end jobs before they can apply for lower social security benefits.

It's really tough to get kids under 30 to understand this, the world is their oyster and they'll be able to save enough by then, no sweat.

Yeah, that's what we thought, too.

like having young pliable people that they can bend and mold into whatever they want. I've seen it first hand. Older workers come into a job with ideas and experience, but those are rarely considered valuable in the corporate world. They want hard working, super loyal robots who never question authority. Also the younger workers are likely to work for less and put up with more crap.

In the current job market, if one of these young employees doesn't work out or quits, there is another one waiting for the job who might even work for less.
