Voters to decide fate of Sanford, Colbert sister
USA TODAY March 19, 2013

WASHINGTON - Disgraced ex-governor Mark Sanford faces the first test of his political comeback bid on Tuesday, as South Carolina voters choose their nominees for a vacant congressional seat.

Sanford is expected to be the top vote-getter among 16 Republicans running to replace Tim Scott in the U.S. House. The open question is who will face Sanford, whose extramarital affair in 2009 derailed his political career, in an April 2 runoff.

The GOP nominee could be running in the May 7 general election against Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch, a political novice with a famous name. Her younger brother is comedian Stephen Colbert, who told CNN on Monday that he is willing to break out of the character he plays in his satirical show to help her campaign.
