French police raid apartment of IMF head Christine Lagarde

French police have searched the Paris apartment of IMF chief Christine Lagarde, as part of an investigation into alleged abuse of her authority while she was finance minister.

Prosecutors are trying to determine whether she was wrong to approve an arbitration panel's 2008 payout to businessman Bernard Tapie.

The panel ordered the partly state-owned bank Credit Lyonnais to pay Mr Tapie damages of 240m euros (£210m).
