(4,835 posts)is that taxes still aren't high enough for some of us. We payed for WWII, we need to pay for the Iraq war the same way.
Romney said something to the effect of: nobody expects me to pay more than I'm supposed to.
We need for his ilk to 'supposed to' pay more.

I agree w/ this because it is true.

(25,771 posts)It says that if you don't pay your taxes, gripe all the time about taxes,
or buy a Congressman or two or three or lobbying to keep taxes unreasonably low
you are saying that you don't think America is worth it; i.e., you are unpatriotic

(18,219 posts)But I would probably wait to put it on until after April 15, since I park in the same lot as a CPA office...and people are not very happy here right now.
But I could not agree more about the message.

(13,985 posts)My tax money have been going to funding wars and military bases all over the world. If my tax money would go to funding roads, schools, hospitals, shelters for homeless, then sure I would have no problem with it.
But that's not where the money go to unfortunately.

(20,219 posts)or that's my understanding, anyway. Aside from what the local repuke reps pocket.

(13,985 posts)I don't own property so I don't pay property taxes. But I give 15% of my paycheck in Federal tax and i hope they will actually use it where it needs to go. We don't need more military or more wars.

(53,661 posts)I'm not sure why people quickly forget the good effects of taxes paid to the federal government. Social Security, UEB, Medicare, Medicaid and dozens of other programs address all of those issues, housing, etc. While most regard some of those as earned benefits, some are not.
All of those programs above were created to prevent hunger and homelessness. We don't need to wait until we see people on the streets to realize there is a need to be addressed before things get that obvious. The states and counties count on federal dollars to make local programs work in their states. Some states get back a lot more than they pay.
We all pay for things we don't like, and things that we do. It's part of the social contract, some good and some bad.

(20,219 posts)Yes, now I remember; articles in our local alt newspaper about school budgets depending federal funding decisions.
Some states receive more than they pay in--right. I forgot about that too. Notably, red states.
The rw zealots (and their minions) who think it's a good idea to get rid of social safety nets are so cut off from reality, from the basic law of cause and effect, not to mention from basic humanity...they're truly functioning at a debased level.

(15,740 posts)I visited the Spy Museum.
On the top floor where they had the WWII exhibits there was a screening room running a cartoon of that era featuring a tax-dodging Donald Duck. Disney pictured him as an un-American traitor to the country.
The "greatest generation" recognized the need for citizens to pay taxes to keep government functioning to protect their freedoms. That's why it is quite annoying to see Republican assholes wrap themselves in the flag and declare it's their patriotic duty to fight to reduce taxes for those who have profited most in this economy.
Freedom isn't free.
Pay your taxes.
A short and concise sentiment, and worthy of a 2014 bumper sticker.
