Oliver North says so!
Fox News host Oliver North revived the discredited claim that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction to justify the American-led invasion of that country 10 years ago.
During an America's Newsroom segment on the 10-year anniversary of the Iraq war, North explained why he thought the war was "worth it," saying: "We got rid of a brutal despot who used chemical and biological weapons against his own people. Weapons of mass destruction that he probably exported to Sudan before we got there."

I thought the official right-wing/fox news explanation was a different S-country: Syria.
Is Ollie getting mixed up?

Stupid Saddam.
Clearly, the Iraq war was his fault.

(56,582 posts)That was the big lie of "WMD": conflating the possession of some chemical agents with building a nuclear bomb.

(2,560 posts)had buried WMD in the southern marshlands and had witnesses to prove it.
She claims to have wonderful contacts with the marsh Arabs (and this seems to be true via Google). She also said this 10 years agp. So it should be no problem...
Ten years later...nada, nix. But she still maintains it.
Sorry, no link - it was live TV.

When I pointed out that we have surveillance satellites that can take a picture of a car's license plate, so why didn't they detect convoys moving the WMDs, he said Saddam had an underground railway system.
The ignorance was deep with that one.

(8,582 posts)The New York Times published an opinion piece by Stephen C. Pelletiere, the CIA's senior political analyst on Iraq during the 1980s.
In the article, Pelletiere said the only thing known for certain was that "Kurds were bombarded with poison gas that day at Halabja. We cannot say with any certainty that Iraqi chemical weapons killed the Kurds."
Pelletiere said the gassing occurred during a battle between Iraqis and Iranians.

(23,292 posts)"he used chemical weapons against his own people"
1. He used chemical weapons against Iran. Iranians are not his own people.
2. He used chemical weapons against the Kurds (Iranian origin) in northern Iraq who have been there for 4,000 years, long before the British invented the country of Iraq.
Again, not his own people.
3. The US government, aka Donny Rumsfeld, Cheeney, Raygun, Bush, et al, sold Saddam the precursors for chemical weapons.
Ollie, the talking points have been discredited for years now. Where you been? Asleep?

Oliver North, what a scumbag.
