US President Barack Obama announced at a Friday press conference in Amman an aid package of $200 million for Jordan to help the kingdom care for hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees.

President Barack Obama says his administration is working with Congress to provide Jordan with an additional $200 million in aid this year.

Jordan’s economic troubles have been made worse by the influx of more than 450,000 refugees fleeing the civil war across the border in neighboring Syria.

The Syrians are crowding refugee camps in Jordan and overwhelming aid agencies run by the important U.S. ally in the Middle East.

I didn't think we were supposed to afford this. Cutting local programs here in the US yet giving money to the Syrians?

When we are doing well as a country I can certainly justify that helping other countries is something we should do. But when we are kicking children out of Head Start, taking away Food Stamps, closing schools....etc....I certainly do not see how we can afford to send money to the children of other countries when our children are doing without.
